    Need help with cardio

Anyone have any suggestions about the best cardio workouts? It's been almost ten years since I have got back into the gym. I've noticed a lot of new equipment and really all I know is the good ol treadmill.

I do a lot of running, but if you want to do more in less time, it's hard to beat high intensity interval training (HIIT).

The one thing about HIIT - as the name implies, it can and will kick your ass. You probably want to get into it slowly

HIIT is very hard to do properly on the treadmill. The first problem occurs simply becaues of the transition time between increasing the speed and decreasing the speed to match the intervals. There is also the issue of being able to decrease the speed consistently when your doing your high intensity intervals (which by the end of the period you shouldn't be able to go further at that pace - if you can you should increase the intensity). Last of all it is hard to get treadmills to go up to the speed required to truly get a high intensity interval (though this can be solved using inclines, but that's a preference issue).

I would try out all the machines available and simply see what you like best. If you are interested in HIIT it works very well on bikes and ellipticals.
