Excel Help
I don't even know if this possible with excel, but I'll give it a shot.
Say I have a function, such as like f(x) = -12x^6 + 42x^5.... etc,
Is there any way for excel to place a number into x and then calculate f(x)?
thanks

f(x) = -12x^6 + 42x^5....
switch x for like a 5 or some ****? what do you mean
Or what you can do is have some cell, like A7 or something, and enter in a number in there. Switch out x for A7, and then it will use whatever number in A7 for the variable
So the formula will lookm like this
f(A7) = -12(A7)^6 + 42(A7)^5....
edit: so yeah, if you had a 10 in cell A7, that would make all the A7's to go to a 10, and you can switch it to a 20 and excel will automaticly update it and give a new solution

Not bad for a 9 yo
I'll make it short:
1. Type formula into column B (assumes X can only assume one value at a time) where X is now the adjacent A cell to the left
2. type the values of X into column A
3. Drag the formula from B down to desired cell
4. Refresh

if you pick a cell, and make the formula refer to the cell.. like =12*A1^6+42*A1^5......
and then go to tools -> goal seek, you can chose to set the cell that the formula is by changing the cell you made x...

Alright, right now I got
=1/(-12.62*B13^6+42.49*B13^5-57.68*B13^4+41.83*B13^3-18.57*B13^2+5.562*B13)
From here, how do I drag it down so it would be like
=1/(-12.62*B14^6+42.49*B14^5-57.68*B14^4+41.83*B14^3-18.57*B14^2+5.562*B14)
etc.
Also, how would you make a list from like .5 to 0 in .01 increments, going down column A?
Sorry for the trouble all, its not even an excel class, I just gotta do a giant Riemann Sum with Excel and haven't used this in forever.
