Workout: Pull
Deadlifts
45 x 12
95 x 15
135 x 15
135 x 12
135 x 12
Wiiiiiiiiiide grip Seated Cable rows
70 x 15
70 x 12
70 x 12
55 x 12
Seated Bent over lat Raises
5s x 15 x 4
Zottman Curls
15s x 15, 12, 12, 12
Notes: What a difference moving your grip width around makes. I see why I always tried to avoid doing that before I was told specifically to do that. The Zottman Curls were a nice change of pace given I haven't done curls in a while with any frequency, and man did my forearms burn after all that.
Decaf is not the real thing. That is for sure. Lucky I'm sticking relatively keto so I can still put in some half and half in it, with Stevia. Even this is at a frequency of every other day. Feelsbadman.jpg
But if I know myself at all....and I do, I won't ever be able to completely cut out all coffee forever. I just like it too much. But for now, its out.
YOU ENJOY THAT CUP!!!!!!!!
Treasure it.
I was told that I'd feel worse this month with cutting everything out in the recovery phase before I started to feel better. I'm sleeping more than usual, and I'm still draggin @ss all day. So I'm ready to start feeling some energy back!
I love coffee. A lot. All kinds, and now that I started to enjoy it dark with no sweetner, etc from time to time...it's like it is taunting me.
Oh I haven't ruined it. I can still play this game. But I ask, are we talking straight up black coffee plain or with all the wonderful fixings that make it the caloric equivalent of a meal? Cuz I can produce lists upon lists!!!!
For the non-creamer/half-n-half/non-sweetner stuff:
1. A plain Italian espresso, preferably after dinner. Especially if it comes with a Zeppole. But even without that, it's good.
2. Chocolate Glazed Donut (comes in the keurig cups) Awesome for work at 2am. Strong and bold
3. German Chocolate Cake (keurig variety---and if you actually add sweetner and milk...its like liquid heaven in a warm paper cup)
4- Jamaica Blue Mountain
5- Extra Bold Italian Roast tied with Iced Trenti Americano
Hon Mention: Dark Magic (keurig), Dunkin Donuts Turbo Ice, French Vanilla flavor.
For the Flavored/enhanced Meal in a cup
1- White Chocolate Mocha with an extra shot of espresso
2- Carmel Mocha
3- Plain Cappuccino
4 - S'mores Mocha (I think from Caribou coffee...comes with chocolate drizzled and graham cracker bits on top
5- Milky Way (a combo at a place in college with caramel, mocha, etc all mixed in)
See. I can still muster up and play.
I think our chairman decided long ago people would complain less and work more when caffinated. So we have one at both hospitals. Once I started branching out in flavors, I have my own personal stash of flavors they don't usually get, plus my own stash of sugar free syrup (most recent is White Chocolate), splenda and nonfat creamer. I take my work coffee seriously when I can, but sometimes, I can slum it with cafeteria coffee in the circumstance of any port in a storm.
Best ones:
Chocolate Glazed Donut
German Chocolate Cake
Mudslide
Cappuccino
Creme Brulee
Mayan Chocolate (has a slight hint of cinnamon which is actually quite complimentary)
Cinnamon Roll (and I usually am not a fan of cinnamon as a strong flavoring in coffee)No excuses, just performance...

Stellar workouts as always! What's with all the sweet talk here! Speaking of donuts, have you seen the donut peaches in the produce section ? Weirdest thing. They are peaches but shaped like donuts. i guess they have no pits.
Forgive me for deviating the yummy food prnz talk into a relatively healthy fruit topic!...

Notes: First try in a long time with Goblets. I might keep them in the rotation. Something different.
I'm not thrilled with some of the pressing. My flat pressing definitely is not up to levels its been in the past, which is why I'm mixing up exercises to a degree while I work through this month to keep my mind from playing too many games.
I actually enjoy foods of all kinds. "Healthy" or not. I have not seen these but I'm very intrigued! I will have to keep my eye out for these.
Oh....peach fritter. That really would be something.
I have got to be one of the rare humans who went to the Cheesecake factory on National Cheesecake Day....and did not get dessert.
I'd like to get my deadlift endurance up a bit to handle some heavier weights at those reps which I have done before, but always with straps. Now I'm going chalked and mix grip so we'll see where it goes. My deadlift strength doesn't drop anywhere near as fast as my pressing strength so I think I can get it back up where I'd like.No excuses, just performance...

Since I tend to have some issues with sitting back on back squats, to go back to those at the moment just mentally I'm not really feeling at the moment. However, Leg Press really only has so much crossover to anything else. Sitting back is tough on most squatting things, but goblets kind of force the issue a bit. We'll see.No excuses, just performance...

Hi Sammy...i want to give thanks to your supportive posts in my journal...at this point in the game, I need it
I mis-read your kneeling leg curls as kneeling bicep curls....and that gave me a new/old excersise that I should bring back to my workouts.
Good Day to you Miss!In this world, there is Real and Make-Believe. To fear is one thing. To let fear grab you by the tail and swing you around is another. ▪█──────█▪

Notes: Typically, I end up setting up for bench with a bit of a slightly wider grip and I just have gravitated to feeling comfortable bringing the bar low before pressing. This has always felt more stable in the past. What I have noticed over time though is that while my strength can progress with that method, I don't carry over strengths to things like pushups. So to try to allow for some crossover, I narrowed the grip a little and tried to move more vertical. Little things make a big difference apparently!
And you as well Joan!
I'm mixing up some things, trying some things I haven't done in a while. I was getting a little stale. No excuses, just performance...

Lulz. Not a chance. I got my fill of explosive style lifting in high school and college, and I'm not feeling a revist to power cleans, etc and certainly not with a desire to superset them with 200 yd rows superset with kipping pullups.
But generalized athletic mobility with basic skills, like to do pushups, pullups, I don't think is all that unreasonable. No excuses, just performance...

Cardio: 20 min LISS on the Stationary Bike
As I have not done walking lunges in close to over a year, if not more, I wanted to see how my balance on these went. It always takes me some time to get into a groove, so I'll prob stick with the 20s until I can knock out a nice series without falling over.
I'm not used to these things anymore!!! It is sad, but 'tis true. I r tired.
Lulz. Actually, it appeared today that a portion of the gym was being taken over by a group of crossfitters. Shame, I'd gotten so used to it being the usual bodybuilding crowd, with a smattering of other people who pretty much stick to themselves in a predictable pattern of equipment usage. Now I got these crazies hopping and running in place all over.
Hopefully I can still throw a softball after watching them. If I start dreaming about kipping pullups I'm going become unhinged.
It has been a while, you are correct.
How about this one....top 5 movies you'd bring to a deserted island. (no TV series, and an entire trilogy, sequel does not count individually).
5. Old School
4. Drop Dead Gorgeous
3. Rudy
2. Napoleon Dynamite
1. The Godfather Part II
One of my attendings uses a form of this during interview season, only it is 2 movies. You'd be surprised how many people can't answer, or actually get very territorial if asked in a group setting about "THEIR" movie. It's not like they'd be on the same island....otherwise it wouldn't technically be deserted. No excuses, just performance...

I like that list. Life is Beautiful made me cry.
But then again, I cry every time I watch Rudy so I can't say that keeping the movie off my list due to that issue is a disqualifying reason.
Hoosiers is in my top 5 sports movies. As would be Pumping Iron. But being on a deserted island would just irritate me that I no longer had a gym. And trying to squat with a tree branch on my back would just be allowing for salt to be rubbed into a wound.
Star Wars and Princess Bride are also classics.
Doing the high reps does make me feel a bit out of shape in a sense. But not enough to hop around the gym doing crossfit. I just think there are other ways to improve your athleticism. I am happy they get more people aware of oly style lifting and the fact deadlifts exist. But given the technical nature of the oly lifts especially, and the general machismo I have seen in crossfitters (perhaps a bit of a judgement)..it just seems like a recipe for disaster. Granted, so does some of the power lifts if you have someone deadlifting or squatting with crap form....but with the speed the tendency for people to really tweak things, I just cringe sometimes. To get a relative novice doing them...even more scary if they try to muscle everything.
It would be in the top 15. But I tried to keep the list to just 5 for once. And Rudy is my all-time favorite sports movie. No excuses, just performance...

Notes: One of the best leg day sessions in a long time. I'm not sure if I've ever done 460 x 15 before, so that is probably a PR on reps for that, and depth was all the way to the bottom and hitting the lowest stop pegs on each rep. I wasn't thrilled about doing deadlifts at the end, but it is what it is.
Workout: Really? Interesting. I'm sure there was quite a bit of dramatic license, and I know the whole jersey scene was factitious. I suppose that in spite of it though, it's more the theme/message I appreciate more than anything. And while I love the quotes from Pumping Iron, I'm not Arnold, and I'm probably not going to get my physique to the level of competing at that level so the ability to relate to that story is not the same. However, I was an extraordinarily not naturally gifted athlete from a blue collar background who loved sports and playing them, and eventually got to compete on a collegiate level. So fictional or no, or just heavily dramatized, still on my list.
Edit: PR tied on leg press reps.Last edited by sammykapp; 08-13-2011 at 04:20 PM.

There are certain movies that just always get to you. I saw Life is Beautiful once. Haven't seen it since. Even though I don't have any kids yet, at least none I'm aware of, that type of event..I just can't imagine.
I think it is hard from Hollywood to keep from adding in its 2 cents to even the best of actual events. I watched The Fighter today, which I enjoyed, and I'm sure there was some amount of license with that as well. But the acting was incredible, and who doesn't like the classic story of the underdog overcoming adversity?
I would still maintain though that real life is always stranger and more fascinating than anything Hollywood can conjure up. So it is a bit sad when they tweak things to sensationalize an already pretty motivational or crazy story. No excuses, just performance...
