I'm a 17 year old guy and I want to start lifting weights more, and I was wondering, do I really need to focus on losing fat before really making muscle?
If I make muscle without losing fat, will it be harder to lose the fat later on? And will muscle be lost in the process of weight loss?
Or would weight lifting make me lose fat and grow muscles at the same time?

Uh, can't really find a specific post that says whether or not gaining muscle will make losing fat more difficult later on and/or trying to lose weight after making muscle will end up in muscle loss.
I just need to know if making muscle will be pointless before losing weight. Could someone give a quick answer or point me to the right sticky?

Not sure which Sticky, but try to read through them all - tons of great information!
Short version: Unless you're wildly overweight, it makes more sense to starting hitting the weights now. The extra muscle you add will burn substantially more calories on a daily basis than your body does now. Which means it will be easier to cut the extra fat if/when you decide to.
