Not a good idea. I have a doctorate in pharmacy and definitely would not recommend using Megace to stimulate weight gain in a healthy individual. In addition to being used as an appetite stimulant, it is also used to treat breast and endometrial carcinoma. Since it is an antineoplastic progestin that acts through an antileutenizing effect which is regulated by the pituitary, chronic use may suppress the HPA axis (BAD).
P.S. It has also been linked to new-onset diabetes.

See my thread on it:

I've been on it for over 2 years. Horrible side effects. Unless you absolutely need it, I would suggest against it. Both my testosterone and thyroid levels were normal before it, and now my test is at 153 and thyroid levels are low.

What dosage do you normally give your patients and for how long? Would 20mg 2x for 30 days do anything for stimulating appetite and with that short of a run what sides should the patient expect? Any help is appreciated, Thanks!
Thanks for the info I appreciate the insight, I subbed to your thread as well.Stand For Something or Fall For Anything

20 mg? Here let me give you a breakdown. My prescription is 40mg per mL of oral suspension, and I take 10 mL per day, which is the average dose (that equals 400 mg). With this, the effects take a week or two to kick in, and a week or two to wear off after you stop taking it.
What's your height and weight? I was 6'3 and 117 lbs. Unless you're seriously underweight, I wouldn't suggest this at all. Have you tried Controlled Labs Black Hole yet? Or adding a weight gainer to your diet? I was put on Megace and told to drink 6 Boost Plus' a day, which led to a 60 lb weight gain in three months. Maybe you could try just supplementing with something like Boost?

Wow, that is a large dose compared to 20mg. Thanks for explaining that. I was only prescribed 20mg oral twice daily for 30 days. Maybe they are just trying to placebo me. Mine was prescribed due to illness to jump start my appetite but nothing compared to what you have been through. Good luck to you my friend!

Natural Appetite Stimulant
Hey everyone just an fyi on Megace.... its a progesterone. essentially the specific type of estrogen produced by pregnant women to help them eat and gain fat weight around their stomach. That's the kind of weight gain you get with megace so beware. Also the eatmor I bought for my dad turned out to be pretty rock solid its natural so there's not a huge spike but definitely a noticeable difference it's a solid appetite stimulant that at least helps you gain the right kind of weight.
