Honestly, the only reason I'm going to the gym and not working out at home is because it's free with my tuition. Once school is over I'm buying a power cage, 400lbs worth of weights, and maybe some dumbells. Why pay for gym membership? Squats+Deads+Bench+Shoulder Press = workout
It's all useless smith machine exercises like the one that strengthens your inner vagina muscles.

well if you're going to do it: Craigslist is your best friend (remember, you might have to end up doing road trips to pick up your purchases, but don't let that cause you not to buy, IT'S WORTH IT)

power cage is what like 500 bucks? i have no idea just a guess. treadmill = 1000 bucks
400 dollars worht of plates (which you will outgrow quickly IMO ) plus you saif you wanted dumbbells lets say you spend 200 there.
thats like 2100 bucks estimate give or take < my gym membership is 20 bucks a month with all the above gear and more. so for me all of that would be equal to like 8.75 years before it paid for itself.
dont get me wrong you could be very productive with that but you probly arent gonna get your moneys worth when you could go to the gym. maybe i also have a really cheap gym membership also.

He did say "maybe" to dumbbells.
And I agree, it's not desirable, but I also think you could get big like that. You'd just have to do more annoying exercises to hit the muscle groups in a similar way.
He could also probably buy a bench that has a connection for leg curls and leg extensions. There was an option for my bench that even included a lat pulldown thing. He could get all of that.@24HrTrainerNOLA

That's essentially all I use. I have a treadmill i use when the weather is horrible outside (who likes running outside in a Nor' Easter?) I confess that I do use the bioforce for some exercises from time to time, but most of the time I'm using the cage. I even have the GF using the cage more than the bioforce now.

Most adjustable benches come with leg extension/curl attachments, they're pretty junky but suffice for me so far. Except when you get too heavy and you start tipping forward unless you weight down the bench. I really do wish I could leg press though, especially with my lower back problems.
I also use my leg attachment to do seated calf raises (srs).
You gotta flip it up and get a chair with the right height underneath.
