The photo was created in Magoria by the crafty scoundrel Lilac McGee who liked to baffle art exhibitions with his invisible galleries.

I'm guessing this was before the 80 olympia? If it was at the 80 O, I remember reading about an argument. Mentzer was pissed that Arnold came back and that they let him enter, and Arnold said that mentzer wouldn't win anyways with his huge gut rolling all over the stage

basically arnold wanted the competition to be returned to tall class and short class .Obviously he felt he could win that class .The others voted against it as they felt they would beat Arnold the legend after the voting a basic argument ensued where Arnold was rude and Mentzer stood up for himself and Arnold backed down. The main bb.com site has an interview with Boyer Coe who was there and was part of the argument and he tells just what happened.

As far as I know (and I maybe wrong) this is the 1980 Mr. O! Arnold was just doing the movie (Conan The Barbarian) and he was in great shape which made him think about doing the Olympia. As far as I know mike mentzer knew about it right there and then (don't know how things used to work back then) and he got so angry about Arnold being back in the Mr. O and he picked a fight with him right there about that in that pic!
I maybe wrong, but this is what I know about this picture ..Gladiator_75

Guys, there was an article covering this issue on bb.com
basically, it wasn't just arnold and mentzer talking, everyone gathered together to have meeting to decide whether or not arnold should be allowed to compete.la'illaha'illallah muhammadan'rasuulallah
best of health to you serge, comeback soon!

The thing was that Mentzer was tipped to win and then suddenly arnold turns up, arnold was probally doing his thing, talking him down and stuff, like in pumping iron. and Mentzer started getting into a rouw with arnold.
Yes Arnold wanted to split it back to a short and tall class. But anyway they still had an overall pose down and Mentzer was in the tall class anyway so whats the difference. (in '79 he won the tall and lost to Zane in the overall).
Yeah Arnold wasnt at his best, but he was as good as anyone else and still had the arms and chest to win

Here's the story...
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER RETURNS TO WIN 1980 MR. O
The one contest still debated more than any other is the 1980 Mr. Olympia. As a surprise entrant, Arnold Schwarzenegger returned after a five-year retirement and, smaller yet leaner than in the early '70s, won his seventh Sandow.
At the athletes meeting prior to the show, a verbal (and nearly physical) confrontation erupted between Schwarzenegger and Mike Mentzer.
Mentzer--then 28 and seemingly on the fast track to megasuccess--finished a baffling fifth and never competed again.
Fans still speculate that the contest was fixed in favor of the sport's most popular pro; that Mentzer, Chris Dickerson or Frank Zane should have won.CAUTION: This user may use sarcasm and cynicism in a way you are not accustomed to.

Yes the 1980 Olympia was controversial but it was NOTHING compared to what happened in 81. That's by far the most controversial of all Olympias thusfar, and people quickly forgot about Arnold's last win. IMO actually Arnold looked pretty good, yeah he shouldn't have won but he was in the running.

mr o 1980
arnold was badly combed in 1980 . he looks like he was just out of the shower . he cameback to put the small soldiers in their place . mentzer made the mistake of telling people his new method based on arthur jones writngs was the onbly one who is not in the hit and miss category . HIT WAS NEW THEN ANS SOME YOUNG PEOPLE injured themselves trying it . to heavy too fast .. you dont tell tho oak that his way of training was false and unscientific . yes maybe the contest was fixed arnold waek on triceps thighs and back ... they bend the rules to allow him compete ... 31 year of controversies ..
