On average, how long out of work for wisdom teeth?

I gota get my wisdom teeth taken out end of may, but cant really afford to be out of work to long. I work at a front desk at gym.. involves no heavy lifting.. nothing strenuous at all.

How long after my sugery, its scheduled for monday 8am, will it be until I can return to work? I know each situation is different, but on average.

I plan on doing all i can, keeping head elevated, ice, anti-inflammatories, etc.

Im worried because i planned a vacation may 2-9th for occiental grand punta cana, and now i gota get these out, and gota limit my days off!

i had my wisdom teeth out (all four) only when i was in high school... but i only had a couple days off after and was right back into it... but my brothers both had it as well and were out for a like a week so it really just depends...

I got mine taken out on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. I had a really hard time with the surgery too.

Are them impacted? Above the gum line? Are you getting knocked out or just numbed? Mine were greatfully above the gum line(ie I could feel them normally with my tongue) and I was back at work the next day, with some drugs of course. I am sure you would be fine in a day or two, just be carefull not to drink anything out of a straw or use a sucking inhale (start the gay joke) as you dont want dry sockets. Like you said everyone is different, just make sure you keep the swelling to a minimum and hopfully the ortho doesnt f*ck up.

Took the day off for the surgery and was back at it the next day. The worst is the anaesthetic and how you feel that day.

It sucked for me and I'm still only at about 90% because they had to remove a good portion of bone from my lower jaw to get one of my teeth out, but I was back in school the following Tuesday.

Damn that sucks balls. I have to get a root tip removal on my anterior top tooth. They're gonna be grinding out some bone too to remove it. I didn't know that it could just grow back though lol

Just curious, why do you have to have it removed? That one was of the reasons my surgery was so extensive. What happens if a root tip just stays there?

i got all of mine out last july. I didnt know that I wasnt supposed to work out after the surgery so I lifted the next two days and got a dry socket (which wasnt a big deal but i had to go back to the doctor so he could stick some gel thing under my tooth). It took me 5 days before I ate solid foods again. my blender was working tirelessly making me shakes with whey, milk, oats, and egg white liquid. you will probably be 100% about 8-10 days later but you can probably work 2 days later though IMO

(research it) I'm not kidding when I say I was in constant pain for about 2 months as a result. Horrible nerve pain that pain killers did not help. It was bad enough to make me cry at times. I ended up abusing vicodin for that time just to try to escape the pain...

It's not very common but wow, it was one of the most terrible times of my life!

same thing happened to me that i worked out the next day and had a dry socket. I took care of it a few days later though and the doc put some gel thing on my tooth and it was gone in a couple of days. you definitely waited too long

Dry sockets happen more frequently in women than in men, so it's less of a concern for men.

It depends on the person. I was out of commission for a few days. The longest part for me was healing up well enough to eat normal food. A friend of mine had his taken out and he was eating porkchops that same night but he's a freak.

i had all 4 impacted....i took all the ********s they gave me every couple of 2-3 hrs. slept in a lazy boy the first 2 nights, kept ice on it all the time...i was back in action the 4th day to work

I've had 2 wisdom teeth chiseled & pulled with no problems at all. The dentist sent me home with a script of vicodin which I didn't use. The next day I was playing basketball with my friends, and eating soft foods no problem.

It will vary on the severity of your wisdom teeth. If they are growing sideways and impacting your molars, you might need oral surgery. That would put you out of commission for a few days. Otherwise I wouldn't sweat it.

If you have a good dr its not that bad. I had 5 wisdom teeth taken out and the next day i was fine. Every once in awhile id have a headache but i didnt need the pain killers that much. I took them once in awhile at night when theyd hurt and i wanted to go to sleep.

With non impacted teeth and a good doctor, you may only need a day off. if they are impacted, I'd plan on 2-3 off.

Haha, i had all FOUR of mine taken out wasn't to bad. After a few weeks your mouth feels fine. The biggest bitch is when food gets stuck in the holes where your teeth use to be. They gave me this turkey baster looking thing lol to squirt water to clean them out. Oh yeah and the ********s they gave me were meh. Some Roxies would have been better

I had all 4 removed in high school.... they were coming in completely sideways and had to be broken apart for removal.

I was up and at em' the next day. Didn't even fill the prescription for the pain meds.

Different for everyone it seems.

When I got my wisdom teeth out (I only got two, so this might matter) I was so tired after words, but When I got home I ate some ice cream and iced my cheeks for about 30 minutes then passed out with ice on my face. All I really ate was ice cream (before my lifting days) and I iced my cheeks a lot, prob more than I should have but my swelling was next to nothing because of this. I also did the who gargling salt water thing prob more than I should have, but im sure that helped also. The next night I was able to go out and felt/looked fine, minus the blood rush whenever id bend over.

I guess through all this rambling im trying to say, if you dont eat **** your not supposed to, ice your cheeks a lot, take some aspirin/what they give you(hydrocodine I believe?), gargle the salt water, and rest and allow blood clots to do their thing, then you should be good in a couple days. But I guess everyones different, thats just how it was for me.

Honestly I had all four of mine out a few months ago and recovered within a few days.

Now something I was not aware of was that I am allergic to hydrocodone and couldn't understand after a week of taking it why I as a whole felt like ****. My teeth were fine, but I was tired and got headaches which I thought were from the wisdom teeth. After I noticed I had broken out in a rash I realized the allergy. I was getting from the very things I used to take away my pain in the first place.

All four impacted done at the same time (was 19) and I recovered in a couple of days. On a side the nitrous really f*cked me up and I got stupid and felt up a fine ass nurse and had no idea I did it. I ran into her a couple years later at a club and she remembered me and we wound up hooking up. F*cking classic.

I am getting it done by an oral surgeon, all 4 need to get taken out. Impacted and growing in sideways, but they don't have to break my jaw.
