That's insane. I have an alpine amp that runs 1000W at 2 ohms... and it's more than enough. My entire setup is ridiculous though, I can max out my volume but the speakers never pop... your ears will start to ring before the system distorts. I use an Alpine deck, Alpine amps, JL Audio sub, and Boston Acoustics speakers.
btw, a friend of mine is gonna be pursuing a PhD in chem at UB next year.

Lol, my setup was worth WAAAY more than I paid for that car; I think I dropped about 3K and did most of the wiring (0 gauge wire = ballin status)and shiz myself. The amp was this pimpass looking flush-mount brushed aluminum amp, costing I believe 900 or 1k. The subs were those 15" diamond audio MDL or MDX somethings.... they were 12inches deep, aluminum cone and kevlar spider, I think 100 or 120oz magnets. Those two subs were off the 1500W amp at 0 ohms with eq and crossover and seperate dry cell battery. The 800W soundstorm amp was cheap and just powered my 6x9's, dash speakers (I think 3"), and 2 tweets suspended off the top of the 'pillar' above my head.
When I put it in a competition once and IIRC, it hit 155dB playing a pulsed sine wave. Wish I had pictures so you all could fap to it

Lol, I do not like the fosgates; it's kinda like those phoenix audio crap IMO.

Holy ****... that's absolutely insane. I may take a reading and figure out just how loud mine is someday. It sounds perfect, and I did 100% of the work myself. I got the crossovers tuned through the tuner, each speaker only gets optimal frequencies. It sounds really really crisp.
What's his or her name? I might have talked to the person during the recruiting weekend.

Nice. I didn't tune it myself despite having exceptional hearing; I didn't have an oscilliscope.
Robert Best... decently big guy... has a horrible snaggle tooth.

Lol, I think that was the same time I sold that car.... maybe a little bit after that.
EDIT: found a link to my old amp; I can't believe it was $1200.... maybe, I dunno. And I guess it was stable at 1 ohm, not 0; I fail.
