rolled my ankle for the 100th time
ok so today I was playing basketball and I stepped on the line so automatically tried to swivel my foot so that it was inbounds. While I did that my right ankled rolled and instead of putting weight on in I simply fell to the ground. at the time there was no pain and I took a couple second break to make sure nothing was hurt. I continued playing without a second thought and went home to take a nap. When I woke up I could tell it was a little swollen and it felt like there was some "play" in my ankle. By this I mean it tends to swivel as I walk on it producing some mild pain. Now I've been involved in pretty much every sport and have never sprained or broken my ankle but threw basketball, hockey, and skateboarding my ankles have taken a lot of abuse altho I have never experienced anything like this. I dont think I should be worried but I would like another opinion, if anyone even knows wat I'm talking about.

If there was no immediate pain and you're able to walk on it, I don't figure it woudl be that big of an issue. Just ice it to reduce the swelling and take it easy for awhile. Good luck

I'm assuming you rolled onto the outer side of your foot? I'm only assuming this because would be an eversion sprain, and the most common. Since your post says "for the 100th time," I'm assuming that you've had similar occurences before, like is typical with this type of sprain.
Generally, once you sprain ANY joint, it is much more susceptible to being sprained again. It is quite possible that you've either had a mild sprain before or have a mild one now and are still quite capable of walking on it. The thing with sprains is, they involve ligaments, and once you stretch a ligament, it will never tighten back down, so you will always have a loose or "bad" ankle, barring surgery. It may build scar tissue in there, to an extent, but the ligaments will never actually shrink back down. It is possible to strengthen the muscles around the joint in order to stabilize it better, however, so that is what people generally do.
The best thing you can do is rest it and ice it often until the pain and swelling subside. Usually, with mild sprains, you can start trying to strengthen it rather quickly. Ankle exercises are kind of boring but I'd be more than happy to explain a few if you'd like. If not, then just remember RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Those are the best things you can do for it right now.

thanks for the great infor and yes I did roll the outside of my ankle just as I did the other 100 times except this time there was a definant twist in my ankle right before it rolled. Otherwise I iced it and seems to be doing better now altho I dont think I'll be playing basketball for a couple days. Also, right now the only really discomfort I get is when my ankle moves a little right or left and I try to put weight on it. Its a completely habitual movement when I walk so its been a challenge teaching myself to walk again.
And I would be interested in learning some ankle excercises as I do not want to take much time off from my workouts and would like to decrease the number of reoccurrences.

Yo I rolled my ankle countless times too untill one day I became irate. I said to myself, "this isn't happening to me ever again." I did ankle exercises ( circles and stretching it) whenever I could think of it. I did it for a month and my ankles have never had a problem since (four years after). I suggest you do the same, trust me it will terminate ankle rolls.
