starting strong man
Worked events today for the first time with tennessee chairman.
He is going to work me on 2 events a weekend for the next month then we are going to put it together,
today i did the yoke and farmers.
yoke
200lb 100'
300lb 100'
400lb 100'
comp weight 500lb 60 ft did it in 7.75 the first trip but stumbled so i did it again and did it in 6.7secsonds.
farmers
165 each hand for 4 trips of 100'
then did farmers hold to work on grip. did 210 each hand. first time was 17 seconds { not good enough} second time did 10 seconds{ was freaking pissed} so i zoned out a little and nailed the 3rd hold for 27.5 seconds {martin was happy bout this one}
was a great first day, i think i am doing stones and log next week if i can get some tacky.

I would guess you are a heavy weight... why is the yoke 500? Obviously you are capable of more with that time!

hey whotime i recommend not starting off with tacky. If you start training without it, when you really get used to the stones and start going heavy you'll feel it bite because you're so used to less grip. And beware the first 2-3 times the stones will eat your forearms you may want to tape up. nice yolk times though.

If I am training for a strongman contest,my training days would be like the actual contest day itself.
I would do all the events one after another with a load heavier than the contest weight(eg if the contest farmers is 100kg,I would aim to do 110kg or even more)and timed as well. Say the next contest consists of 5 events-tire,yoke,farmers,truck pull, stones in that sequence.
I would train the events in that sequence with timing. After the 5 sets,I would do some extra work for the events I am weak in,say, 3 extra sets for farmers and yoke, just 1 extra set for the events I am good at.
Doing 5 different events in just one session is totally different from doing more for just 2-3 events.
You might wanna have a rest period between sets like the contest day itself so each session might just take up the entire weekend afternoon.

Good deal, your press looks like it will be strong.
I have also used forearm sleeves for stone loading and like them. You can pick up some designed for football, they're cheaper than the strongman-specific ones.

Yeah, cleaning a small log is harder, but pressing it is easier. Once you get to a certain goal weight on the 8in log, I'd move to at least a 10in, so you get an idea of how that feels, since you're rarely going to get to press an 8in log in a contest.

LOL, some people will adjust to lift stones some will not... I personally have to wear them my skin doesn't callous so it want thicken up.. it's a genetic thing.. my hands despite years of lifting are very smooth.. but I"m a girl so I'm not complaining!! LOL But I'm guessing men are less prone to this sorta problem..

It's not the same kind of callous as the ones in your hand. The skin on the forearms just get thicker and harder. It takes awhile and I had plenty of explaining to do to people I work with, but eventually they stop bleeding/bruising and it becomes a painless activity. Partly because of said skin thickening and partly because your grip improves and the stones don't slip (thus scratching skin off) anymore.

I don't think I want my arms to thicken..
I used duck tape a few times it worked pretty good but I like the sleeves better.. I'm sure for men though thickening would be a good thing..
I have several westside training programs stored away if ya wanna read them.. I'm sure you have your own program,, but good read.
