Morning guys!
So...kinda upset about the results of BL last night. Don't get me wrong, I respect all the players, and for each one of them to lose more than 50% of their weight is amazing...but....I'm upset Tara didn't win. Not to mention, Helen kinda looked genuinely unhealthy. Her arms and legs were boney! Totally not expecting that. Oh well. The girl I voted for to be on the show next season got on, so I was slightly less disheartened, lol!
MOVING ON!!!! I'm going in to be a lab rat today. It's the whole do a blood test, swallon carbon dioxide, do a blood test day today. So I'm not allowed eating or working out until about 8:30. But then I have class at 10:30, so I'll be training with nothing in my system but Vaso and Xtend again. Here's hoping I can still put out a PR!!! Wooo!!!
I'LL report back later with how it went!
Motivation of the Day: Not necessarily what I'd want to look like...but she's Canadian...and has amazing legs...

What I'm reading: http://ericcressey.com/newsletter154html - Classic front squat vs. back squat argument. I love Eric.

Wow....who would've called that? Looks like we were both wrong...that never happens!!

Look at all of those PR's. You are gonna be at the end of the rack soon
And you did 50 minutes of cardio and are going to do more later. Why so much?
If you train at the uni gym tomorrow for the last time, make sure you make it the best one ever
P.S. The article was good and I totally agree on how important stage presence is. Gotta know how to show what you got
Sometimes Court helps too much, but it's only because she doesn't know how strong she is. So when she spots a 135 bench, it's no big deal for her to lift the whole thing, lol! But I hear ya about the guys....
Uh...yay cardio?
It'll be a good one...hopefully!

I was pissed myself. I never saw Helen as a threat and to be honest, I lost all respect for her when she wanted her daughter to go home so she could stay. As a mother, your children should come first...she is young and she obviously needed to be there.
I have to ask, because I asked Dave last nite as well.....is it NOT unhealthy that she lost 57% of her weight? More than half???
I was rooting for Tara myself. That girl kicked ass no matter what everyone threw at her. She is such an inspiration.

Ok, gotta address an issue here first and foremost...
Fasted resistance training:
1) READ THIS!!! http://bradpilon.com/2009/05/how-to-...of-muscle.html
2) Dr. Stuart Phillips - Look him up on Pubmed.... J.W. Hartman, D.R. Moore, S.M. Phillips. Resistance training reduces whole body protein turnover and improves net protein retention in untrained young males. Appl. Physiol. Nutr. Metab. 31(5): 557-564, 2006 smf http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/abstract/137/4/985 .... Mr. Phillips, out of McMaster U has done extensive research on the area of skeletal muscle hypertrophy in a fed/fasted state AS WELL has how much protein is optimal for growth (hint: we take in a lot more than we think we need).
If you have an hour....spend it listening to this. You will think QUITE differently about what you think you know about nutrition, and what you need if you're an athlete. http://www.podfeed.net/episode/Super...abolic/1633849
You are going to be anabolic when you resistance train. The minute you pick up a weight, you start a cascade of events involving hormones, metabolic pathways and nervous systems that induce hypertrophy. If you're eating enough throughout the course of the day, you'll be fine. Whether it's intermittent fasting, 3 meals a day, 6 meals a day, or fasted resistance training, if you're getting enough protein, you will get the benefits of lifting the weights!!! You're not impeded just because you don't have food in your system!!!
Now, to support this argument, what happens if you get too much protein? CLEARLY, the protein degradation enzymes (ie. protein breakdown enzymes) are going to be UPREGULATED!!! Taking in more than you need will tell your body to start breaking down the excess to take to the amino acid pool (or fat stores if you're taking in too many calories).
Ugh. Sorry for the rant. It's just that I've been doing a lot of researching, and studying and I'm not so quick to believe everything I hear anymore. So when someone says, "Fasted resistance training is bad", I wanna say, "O'rly? Cuz...I dun think so..."

Ya, it was super selfish of her...good call.
You know, I do believe these people were being medically supervised, and I know for a fact they're not on ridiculously low calories. They do workout excessively, but they also eat healthy. So I guess as long as they're being monitored, it's legitimate.
