So I want to get some good shoes for leg day. For me, this means the shoes are relatively flat (no heel... or at least not much of one). I don't want Chuck Taylors; those look like **** and I'm somewhat style-conscious. Are the Nike Frees pretty flat? If not... any suggestions for good shoes that fit the bill?
The gym is not about fashion. Look at lifting shoes. All the ones I've seen make Chucks look pretty.
There are few threads on shoes referenced here recently.
I expected I'd get at least one response like this and I tried to pre-empt it with the way I worded my message...
The gym is not ABOUT fashion, you're right. However, that doesn't mean that wearing decent looking gear is going to negatively affect your workout or anything.
Besides, some people might view the gym as a potential place to meet a significant other... and what's wrong with that? Honestly, if a guy is into sports and fitness, he probably wants a girl that is also very fitness minded. I suspect wearing hammer pants, squat shoes, a cutoff shirt, and a bandana isn't going to help my already pathetic game.
Yes Nike Frees are pretty flat.
With racing flats you are pretty close to barefoot. Puma h-streets are too.
I would recommend Vibram Five fingers, but if you are style conscious, you probably wont go for them.
Nice, I looked at Pumas and a lot of them are completely flat. Good suggestion!
I've seen the Vibram Five Fingers. Those things are COOL, but I don't know if I'd wear them to the gym. I'd definitely get them to run around in the summer, though. Do you have them? Do you feel like they've improved your training?
If you want a fitness, and lifting gal wear serious lifting equipment.

If she knows whqt they are and compliments you on them ask her out. If she laughs and points she is an ignroant cardio bunny, ignore her it won't work out anyway.

OK, those are sick! I'm going to look those up.
EDIT: So, I'm searching for the adistars and they don't seem to be available anywhere but ebay, etc. Are they out of production?
skateboarding shoes are pretty flat pumas are good to and look alright. i think we need a shoes sticky this is one question that gets asked way to much
Look at yourself as a Bodybuilder on a mission....not some skinny ass kid busy popping zits and doing bench and curls.

Everybody loves the destination but few want to make the trip.

i like chucks, old school vans (off the wall), and pumas. i've been wearing my vans lately, complete with flames. my chucks ripped, and my pumas i still wear around. i am gonna try those nike frees or a pair of wrestling shoes next, i think.
i'm also a huge nike shox fan, but not for squats or deadlifts.

Pretty damn flat and light, look good too(depending on which ones you have).
They do make some butt ugly pairs however.
This is the shoe I ended up buying. I bought the Nike Sparq S9 and I *highly* recommend it for both plyos and leg day. As you said, they're light, flat, and I like the fact that they incorporate Nike Free technology for foot strengthening.
