Be AWARE... there will be no cliffs...

Do NOT turn this into yet-another religion-vs-atheism debate... do that in your own thread!
----------------------------
I had a dream today (as I work nites), and I felt the need to share it with you-all...
The early details are irrelevant except for:
I was part of a military event in the middle east, and the situation had decayed to the point of threatening the existence of the globe. I was directed to remain at the post of a nuclear device large enough to annhilate the entire region, and the only way to activate this device was the simplest method possible... touching two wires together.
Meaning that, if ordered to set off the device, I would instantly cease to exist.
Within this dream, I come to terms with the concept that, should this situation arise, I could and/or would be willing to sacrifice my life to prevent such a thing...
Within the dream, there was only recognition of self. Realizing that, post-dream, these two wires would result in extermination of untold-millions of 'innocents', I put this question:
When does the balance-beam tilt away from favoring the 'greater good'?
To steal from StarTrek 2... "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or the one", but when does 'the few' become 'too many'?
Sacrificing myself (in this dream) would be a small price for 'gobal peace'... but at what point does the 'collateral damage' become too great?
Surely there are other ways to phrase this... but Im sure that there are already those begging for cliffs...
Please keep thoughts CIVIL and intelligent..
