I work out at home with a bench with a leg extension/leg curl add on and some dumbbells+barbell. Its rather difficult to squat since i have no good starting position to get the barbell up. Ive been thinking about dumbbell squats. Are these any good? any difference to barbell squats?(for legs)
thanks in advance

dumbbell squats involve entirely different bio-mechanics then the full squat. It involves next to none hamstring involvement and very little gluteal contraction. If you cannot do the back squat the next best alternative is to do the step up or the lunge(step up is more preferable. The limiting factor in using heavy weights for the lunge is balance and form.Step up you just step up onto a step. How simple is that.).Step ups should be done with a step that is high enough so that your leg is parallel or even below parallel to the floor.
