question about squat weight
Hi,
Just curious about the situation i have at the moment. I can deadlift more that i can squat. Is this normal? I'm not very strong nor anywhere near in shape but i just found it odd that i could pull off the floor more than i could squat.
Current deadlift is 210x8 but my squat is 170 x 8 and i almost see stars at the end !

Yep, very normal for most of us to be stronger in DLs. Don't sweat the small stuff.

No longer in denial
I agree, that seems about right. Most people who squat more than their deadlift just are not squatting deep.

Absolutely as normal as can be.
If you were any more normal they wouldn't let you hang out here.

It would be rare to find someone that could squat more than they could deadlift. You're very normal. Stay strong...

I actually squat more then I deadlift, and I go past parallel. I have my squats first the SLDL then regular deadlifts. I squat more then I deadlift but that cause I am gassed after squats and SLDL. So I would also say it's nromal to deadlift more.

[QUOTE=JOHN GARGANI;304528561]Charles, can you do us a favor?
can you please clarify your actual weight statistics???

On the picutre up above i was over 185lbs. I have not taken and updated picture since. About 3 months into the program i had a 43 inch stomache. At the present moment i have 41 inch stomache at 169.
You must have more muscle mass than me because i'm a twig with fat. I basically look like a volkswagen beetle when seen sideways.
There's a lot of work to be done but i will do it.

For people of a more moderate build, it is common, as most people have said, to squat more than you deadlift, unless you a built like a t-rex. People at the extremes tend to differ, and will often squat more, such as the best lifters in the 114 and 123 lbs. classes, as well as the truly ginormous behemoths.

I deadlift about 50 lb more than I squat.

When in doubt, mumble
I have deadlifted 405 for one rep.
My max on the squat has been 265
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

I squat more than I deadlift. I'm taller (6'2), and carry most of my weight in my legs, so that might explain it. My deadlift has progressed of late, too, so I might be getting to "normal."
