So I am having trouble wrapping my head around how you can loose weight on Whole 30 without tracking calories? When it comes down to any weight loss, you still need a caloric deficit, correct? I understand the concept of "listening to your body and not counting calories" as the plan suggests, but I am not sure how effective that would be in assessing how many calories you have ingested and not overeating.

That's just a fad diet that unnecessarily restricts certain foods groups because they are "bad for you". Don't follow it.
Yes, a calorie deficit is required to lose weight. Create a diet that fits you. Eat a variety of foods you like to hit sufficient macros and micros.

As said, just another garbage fad; nothing but a waste of time.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

I have no trouble losing weight without counting calories tbh. I wouldn't buy a book about it though.
You can't help the hopeless.

It's a load of nonsense. Any beginner who isn't actively weighing/measuring/tracking his/her calories/macros is soon to be referring to themselves as someone who "used to diet and exercise, but that stuff doesn't work."
Spend some time in the 'losing fat' forum, and you'll quickly see, from the almost by-the-minute posts from those who "can't seem to lose fat," that the vast majority of these people aren't tracking anything, and are, instead, either claiming to "eat clean," are using some dumb 'app' on their phone---or worse---just eyeball-estimating how much and of what they're eating.
IN before a half-dozen posts from people who "don't track anything, and I'm shredded." Well, I'm happy for you, but you're an outlier, and not at all representative of the vast majority of posters on this site struggling to lose a couple of pounds of flab.No brain, no gain.
"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon
