Ode to Deadlifts
Okay, well I don't have the skills to actually write an ode to deadlifts, but I just wanted to say that I LOVE them. There are so many variations and they work so much of your body. So if you love deadlifts, get your hot deadliftin' ass in here!

I give my nice rounded butt credit to SLDLs. They are my favourite part of leg day.

Thank you...i LOVE deadlifts.
In fact it was deadlifts that made me realize how much i love my BF. On out first date i asked him how he managed to look so good and get into shape for competitions. I figured he was going to tell me that he does bicep curls and bench presses and the typical split workout that i really dislike.
His response was one word that was music to my ears:
"Deadlifts"

Well, I guess part of it has to do with the fact that it is the lift that I use the most weight on, so I love feeling powerful and strong. It is such a confidence booster. Also I feel like so much of my body and mind is involved with it. Like sometimes I'll be so pumped up about it but then other times I'll just see all the weight and I'll think "I reaaaallllly don't want to pick that up today" but then I do and I feel better hahaha. I dunno if this is making any sense. But pretty much I love being able to do what I can (1.5x my bodyweight, definitely not good enough yet but I just started leg stuff recently due to equipment availability ugh) and I love how I feel like I worked hard afterwards.
Anyone else care to answer that question? Thanks for asking!

SLDL's are my absolute favorite exercise. Many of my reasons are the same as yours. I like how powerful I feel when I pick up 185lbs. I also like the stretch in my hamstrings and the way my legs & butt look from the side while I'm doing them. I also don't mind the weird looks I get from men as I load 45's and then 25's onto a bar

^^^^^
This.
I've only ever done SLDLs, to be honest. I'm not up to 185...yet
It's definitely all in the prep for me too. Getting my grip, staring at myself in the mirror, lifting it up and seeing my shoulders, arms, traps all working...it's such a good feeling!
I also love seeing those 45's on the bar...so sexy!!

I agree with everything you mentioned. I like DL for a number of reasons (not neccesarily in order!):
a) it is impossible to cheat or get significant advantage with gear
b) it is the ultimate test of raw physical strength
c) ego is a non-entity here
d) women I know who regularly DL went through menopause and all with no loss of bone-density.
e) again women I know who DL regularly but bench only occasionally, actually bench more weight than those who train bench regularly (go figure!)
f) along with squats, it gives the most bang for the buck-time spent in the gym.
g)there is something intensely enabling and calming about knowing you can carry a grown man 2 blocks if you need to.
I'll let you know if I think of more!
Oh by the way, the bench thing goes for male lifters that I have observed as well!

Reason: Add the male angle.
