Discouragement
Are you discouraged? If you've invested enough effort and energy to get to the point where you're discouraged, you're well on your way to success. Discouragement is a certain waystation on the road to any worthwhile achievement.

If you know enough to be discouraged, and if you care enough to be discouraged, then you've made considerable progress. Learn what the discouragement has to teach you and then continue moving forward. It may seem as though you'll never make it, but in reality you already are. It would be a shame to be stopped by mere discouragement. It is there to temper and harden you, not to stop you.

Be discouraged for a little while. Reflect on your discouragement and you'll discover that it is a result of your commitment. You've already invested your time, your efforts, your life. Soon you'll reap the full reward of that investment. Feel the discouragement and let it spur you on.

It's your energy
When was the last time anxiety knocked at your front door? Have you ever met stress walking down the street? When did you ever answer the telephone and discover anger on the other end of the line?

Things such as stress, anxiety and anger do not exist in real, tangible form. They exist only in you and only with your cooperation. They are not grown in a field or manufactured in a factory. They are created in your head.

And as such, there is no need for you to "deal" with them or "resolve" them. You have it in your power to simply annihilate them or, better yet, to avoid giving birth to them in the first place.

Do not let your anxieties control you. Do not let them do anything. Do not let them be. Just throw them away. What good are they? Why allow them to clutter and complicate your life? It takes a lot of energy to create and to maintain stress, anxiety and fear. Redirect that energy toward something positive and creative. It's your energy. It's your life. Use it to be joyful.

Which way?
Where you are is not nearly as important as the direction you're moving. No matter how far down you are, you can quickly turn around and head back up. You cannot instantly get to the top, but you can instantly be on your way.

Which way are you headed right now? Are you moving steadily toward an important goal? What will you do today to keep yourself moving that way?

Are the things you're doing moving you toward where you want to be? If not, why in the world are you doing them? Do you really believe you can get somewhere by walking farther and farther away from it every day?

There's something you can do today to keep yourself, or to get yourself moving toward exactly where you want to be. Do it! Every day you spend drifting away from your goals is a waste not only of that day, but also of the additional day it takes you to regain lost ground.

Know where you want to go. Get on track and stay on track. Keep yourself always moving forward.

Acquired taste
Did you know that you can decide what you enjoy? Yes, of course you can. Think of all the "acquired tastes" you have accumulated over your lifetime. Many things you now enjoy as an adult -- certain foods, types of music, activities -- you no doubt abhorred as a child.

Success is an acquired taste. Those who learn to enjoy the activities which lead to success and achievement are the ones who attain that success. The best players genuinely enjoy the game. The most successful entrepreneurs are the ones who truly love their work.

Many people dream of the ideal job in which they could do what they already love, and make money at it. That is an admirable and worthy aspiration, yet sometimes it is just not realistic. But there's another way to arrive at the same result -- if you can't find a way to do what you love, then find a way to love what you do.

One way or another, when you acquire a taste for success you'll feast on the positive results it brings.

Excellence

No matter what the task, if it is followed through with excellence people will take notice. The effort you put into creating excellence will be effort wisely invested. Everyone has the opportunity to produce excellence in their own way, and it is an opportunity that anyone would do well to capitalize on.

Seek the best
Joy and fulfillment are not merely possible, they are unavoidable when you truly and sincerely seek them. Greatness is your destiny. There is no virtue in being resigned to a life that's anything less than the very best you can envision.

What is the purpose of this day if not to live every moment with joy? True joy is not irresponsible. Rather, it is highly responsible. Living your dream means being responsible to the best that you have to offer.

It is unfortunate that we so often equate happiness with destructive behavior such as revenge, substance abuse or idleness. Lasting happiness and joy result from creative, productive, disciplined actions. Being happy, joyful and fulfilled means being the best you can be.

The things you seek, with the moments, thoughts and actions which make up your days, you will have. You cannot avoid them. They are yours. So make them the best that they can be.

Temptation
It is tempting to think that you can have something for nothing. It is tempting to think that you can take shortcuts. It is tempting to think that you can avoid the negative consequences of your destructive behavior.

When we're tempted to do what we know we should not, it is a deception. We see the reward, obsess over it, and mentally build it up bigger than life, completely out of proportion to reality. At the same time we fail to see the significantly bigger downside.

Being positive does not mean ignoring the negative consequences of our actions. Living positively comes from avoiding the negative consequences by refraining from the destructive behavior which surely leads to them.

The next time you are tempted to act against your own good judgment, remember that it is a lie, a deception for which you will ultimately and unavoidably suffer. Be positive by clearly seeing the negative and staying away from it.

Plan for success
Success is not an accident. It does not happen by chance. It requires more than good intentions. It requires thoughtful, detailed planning. The more ambitious the achievement, the more planning it requires.

We're sometimes averse to planning because we fear that it will somehow detract from the spontaneity and creativity of achievement. But planning is ultimately liberating, not confining. Without adequate planning you eventually run into insurmountable limitations.

Certainly it is valuable to be creative and spontaneous. And thoughtful planning frees you to get more done and to be more creative. For the vast majority of those who achieve it, success does not come as a surprise. It results from devising a plan and then doing whatever is necessary to follow that plan through to completion.

Focus on success and reach it with a detailed and thoughtful plan of action.

Get Back Up
You cannot prevent every setback. However, you can make it a priority to recover quickly from them and get back on track. In every effort there will be interruptions, disappointments, even some disasters.

Your recovery time depends largely on what you decide to make it. The time and energy you put into anger and self pity will serve mainly to prolong the time it takes to get going again.

Accept that the setbacks will come and when they do, decide to move quickly past them. Find something positive in each one, and that will serve to get you focused again on progressing toward your goal.

Winners and losers both stumble. The winners are the ones who quickly get back up and keep on going.

Law and Order
There are universal laws which cannot be violated without negative consequences. There is order in the world which we ignore at our own peril. Some people see this situation as punishing and restrictive. Yet in truth it is liberating and enabling.

What if there were no laws? What if there was no order? How would we make sense of the world? How would we live? How would we possibly hope to find fulfillment if we did not know that our thoughts and actions would have sure and reliable consequences?

The same inviolable order which often seems to punish in the short term gives us confidence and freedom in the long run. The suffering it necessarily brings if we act against it can be a magnificent teacher when we choose to pay heed.

There is no limit to what can be accomplished in this world when you understand and respect the consummate order which is evident in every corner of the universe.

What You Already Know
You already know the importance of discipline, integrity, perseverance, patience and positive focus. You've experienced their benefits, and you've experienced the pain of their absence.

Yet your attention is often overwhelmed by the moment, and you too often abandon the sensibility that you already have. So make a conscious effort to remember. The good things are already yours to the extent that you recall and appreciate their goodness.

Success in life flows from the gratitude and appreciation of those qualities which make success possible. There have been times when you've expressed each of those qualities with your thoughts and actions. Had you not done so, you wouldn't have made it this far.

Latch on to the qualities which bring true fulfillment. Clearly and fully recall their value so as to remind yourself how very much you desire them and the fruits they bring. Remember what you already know and let it guide you to achieve.

And now is the time for that to happen. The past is long gone and the future is yet unavailable to you. Now is when you can make a difference.

What are your dreams, your hopes, your ambitions? Now is the time to follow them with the passion that you know you have. Now is the time for action, for commitment, for purpose. Imagine the Best
How many times have the obstacles standing in your way been primarily a creation of your own imagination? Have you ever convinced yourself that you cannot possibly do something, and then later discovered that you can indeed do it?

Consider that many of the limitations which you live with each day may very well be self imposed. Certainly there are very real and formidable challenges which you face. Be careful not to add to them with your own imagined obstacles.

Your imagination is best used to imagine your positive possibilities. Your mind and your imagination are totally under your own control, so use them for to your benefit. Let your imagination enrich your life rather than impede it. Imagine the best for yourself and your world.

What you can imagine, you can become. That is an incredible power. Be sure it's pointed in a positive direction.

Perfectly Imperfect
It is difficult to develop a burning desire for that which you already have. And without desire, it is virtually impossible to achieve anything of value.

So remember to be thankful not only for your blessings, but also for the things which you do not have. It is those things, which you desire but do not yet have, that will supply you with enough motivation and determination to bring growth and fulfillment.

What you have will sustain you, and what you don't have will compel you to take action. That fertile space between desire and fulfillment is where you will find much of life's richness.

If the world were exactly to your liking, you would have no need or desire to make a difference. Fortunately, you see the imperfections and the shortcomings every day. You know things could be better than they are, and that knowledge spurs you onward.

The world is perfectly imperfect. You don't have it all. Would you ever want it any other way?

The Power of Consequence
Everything you do has consequences. Whether that is a blessing or a curse depends, quite simply, on what you do. You're not some feather that is randomly tossed about by the wind. You have direct control over your own fate, based on the actions you take.

If your actions had no consequences, you would have no power or influence. Those consequences do indeed impose the heavy burden of responsibility. Yet that is far better than the burden of utter helplessness.

The considerable power you have to influence your world is in those consequences. You take action, and there is a result. That dynamic is neither positive or negative, neither good nor bad in itself. It is completely and totally what you make of it.

Understand and appreciate all the implications of your consequences, and you have the power to go wherever you wish.

Great abundance

Life’s abundance is yours, right here, right now. Make good and meaningful use of it.
