Lately i've been feeling more self confident and all, but some of my friends are telling me i' becoming cockier, so yea

Your friends may be hatin' on you, especially since I am assuming your situation with the ladies is improving, and they are still goofballs. Just my analysis.

Self-confident is the less douchier of the two.

basically "in your face" about your self confidence is arrogant and shows the exact opposite...

kinda, i always thought confident is when you're happy with yourself and like who you are,

whereas arrogant is when you think you're better than others and look down upon them. and think people should worship you.

your friends are just hatin' even if its not intentional. they are used to you being a certain way, so any adjustments to that norm, is usually magnified through their eyes, versus a random girl that you meet that doesnt know you at all... if that makes sense

I'm naturally a really confident guy.

I only get cocky and/or arrogant when someone attacks me.

I'm usually pretty good at hitting people where it hurts the most.

well, for one, i tend to rip on people hard the moment they start **** with me

and more often than not i just do it for kicks as well. ive always had my friends call me a dick most the time, biut that was even when i was really shy and couldnt talk to girls really well and what not

i wouldnt say im insecure much, only thing im not happy with is my height (5'7" at 17 ftw), but since ie started taking working out more seriously, ive been feeling better than ever

self confident = I look good, but realize how little that really means

cocky = I look good, it will coast me through life

There are other things besides appearance. I'm not confident because I just look good. In fact, I don't even think I look good at all. I'm pretty average.

I have money and know how to spend it, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I don't drink like a ****ing alcoholic, I have good family values, I've never cheated on any girl, etc.

There are far more qualities than just appearance.

did you read the title on top of my post that said "...appearance as an example"

as example.

confident = assurance in personal identity, multi-faceted person, humble
cocky = unrealistic in view of themselves, not grounded, arrogant

I've noticed when a good looking guy acts cocky..girls like it..they think he got high self esteem..but when a less than average looking guy acts cocky..they think he is an ass hole.....

It's because appearance = #1.

It doesn't matter how you act if a bitch is physically attracted to you. She'll want you either way.

If you do, then you must have really good qualities that those people don't possess.

Cool thread! I've been wondering the difference between confidence and arrogance ever since I started working out. I believe that there is a fine line when it comes to these qualities. I'm pretty sure i come across as both confident and arrogant, but probably more arrogant.

Just for the record, the loud and obnoxious types who like to go on about what they do and how great they are, etc. are the most insecure people you'll ever meet. As they say, the empty wagon makes the most noise.

Confident is being comfortable in yourself and your abilities enough to never have to say anything about it and still be down to earth. Arrogance is simply when you look down on people and think you're better. It's also subjective as a lot of the time people who normally act confident but aren't will label someone who genuinely is confident as arrogant.

This is an easy question to answer: Self-confidence is a belief in yourself that is warranted/justified. Arrogance/Cockiness is when you have an inflated sense of self-worth. Not much more to it than that.
