What training should a hockey player do?

So I'm kind of a nube when it comes to training and I'm going to need some help here. This year I'm going to be playing juniors with kids much much bigger than me. Im only about 5ft 7-8 and 153lbs. What should I be focussing on? lots of cardio and light weights? or should I be going heavy weights to gain mass for the year? What kind of diet should I be on?

What's up man, Im playing u16 this year played up last year tho with u18. You need to do a lot of liftng because one good hit and a tiny guy like you will go flying. Also it will improve your speed a lot plus harder shot

You're young and you're new to strength training, so really any newbie friendly program will work well for you. Once you've lifted for awhile (couple of years) and are reasonably strong then sports specific strength training will make sense, but for now start out as a newb and get stronger. As for which program check the stickies in the workout section of the site. I like SS and WS4SB3, but really any newbie program will do for you.
