What are your short term goals?
Lose weight?
Gain muscle?
You can establish both, however your diet and cardio must be kety factors in losing weight firts. If you are at 19%BF, that is not in the overweight category for your age. You are in the good field of BF. You will need to establish a low carb, calorie diet to lose weight and you can add protein to your diet to add muscle mass. It is best to try and lose what you want to lose first, then begin to bulk up."Nobody's a natural! You work hard to get good, then work harder to get better. It's hard to stay on top"!

i haven't posted on this site yet, but i've been lurking for awhile. i have never really bought into the whole "you are this height, so your weight should be..." charts. i think it's a good starting point but definitely not the end all be all
i played baseball in college. at the start of the season, i weighed 190 lbs and had a bf% of about 10. i am 5'10. according to "the charts" i was overweight.
hardly the case, but that's what "the chart" said...

BMI was created in the 1400s. For some reason intellegent Dr.s Seem to think it still works. By this scale almost every body builder and most professional athletes are obese, and the only people in good condition are cross country runners and cyclist. Just work on cutting your bf down with a cal def.

Well BMI is BS, it doesnt really take in muscle mass. Over half the people on this board are considered obese on a BMI scale. At 19.1%, that is overweight. Around 15% or so is considered average or healthy. What are your goals? Are you looking to get shredded for the beach? Looking for overall health benefits?

Not to beat a dead horse, but don't go by the BMI Index. Go by how you look in the mirror, and how you feel. The BMI and the weight that your scale tells you does not indicate whether you are at a healthy weight because it does not take into account how many pounds of it is lean muscle weight. Michael Jordan was considered by the BMI Index to be "Obese" in his prime...GG
