i didn't use protein powder for say 2 1/2 months?

i was still happy with my results, if anything more happier knowing i got to eat more food

but i've got some protein on the way now getting it delivered only because of uni/convenience.

but to those who are considering it who have time to cook...go with food
    if i die..i die.

A good reason to include shakes in diet. I dont see what the debate is.

Look at bodybuilders of the 18th century and then take a LONG HARD look at ronnie coleman, who, yes, DOES take whey protein, even being quoted drinking a 100g protein shake after a workout in flex.

I will say, though, that I never rely on whey as a meal-I take it with carbs right after my workout, but have a whole food meal within an hour

Something in whey protein causes me to break out into hives. I've tried most popular brands with similar results, muscle milk was the worst. Now I just get my protein from whole foods and have had great success.

Protein shakes are generally whey. Whey is basically liquid ricotto cheese, the opposite of cottage cheese which is basically casein. If you take a blend, you are basically drinking milk with a different casein/whey ratio (milk is 80 casein/20 whey). I visit a guy who has a health food store (fairly knowledgable) and he will FLAT OUT TELL YOU food is better than shakes. This guy DOES NOT sell food! His reasoning is because of enzymes and slower absorption etc.

I will also say shakes help but are only to fill gaps in diet. I had great success with probolic SR (which is a blended protein).

If you are going to do pure whey, I would mix it with milk or fiber or oats or something to slow the absorption down a little. I have even read studies that say blended proteins are better post workout vs. fast acting only. I think the best thing is to try to make whey more of a "whole food" by either buying a blend or by eating/mixing it with whole foods, to me, it just makes sense.

For the record the OP said "protein powder" not just whey.

So all these posts about whey are irrelevant really since blends dominate whey.

Personally I use a blend of 50/30/20 (Whey/Casein/Egg) protein most of the time.

    Same.

All my protein is plant based & has a lot of carbs or fat (think beans, nuts & seeds) so when I need to cut calories AND keep protein up, I two options

-replace a protein source with powder
-keep all my protein sources & start eliminating fruit or oils in an effort to cut calories

Of course the first choice is the healthiest.

Whole food is so much better and I find it is so much easier to enjoy! It's kinda hard to enjoy a shake very long when you down it in like 10 sec. But then again, a lot of times like when I have CC, I'll mix in some ON Choco or Bananer Cream Casein to spice it up a bit and add a lil extra protein....or I'll add it to milk for cereal in the morning. So it doesn't really have to be one or the other - they can coexist in harmony.

Most of my protein comes from Whey, its more convenient and I don't have to worry about what I eat, I get enough protein and I can then enjoy food.

Ronnie eats whole food postworkout. Interview in Flex where hes pimping BSN is not a good source of information.

Anyway, if you are saying whey is the reason todays bodybuilders are bigger than 70s and 80s ones, you are an idiot.
