Im STARVING!!
Ok, I need help ladies.. WHat am I doing wrong? By 5pm I am starving!! I eat 5-6 meals a day and I keep it in the 1300-1600 calorie range. I drink a 3-4 liters of water a day... and I am sooo hungry! Here is a sample of my day to day.
5:30a-6:15 Pilates
6:30-7a Cardio
730a-Eat Breakfast: 1/2c oatmeal, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tblsp flax meal. Coffee
10am- Snack: 1/2c cottage cheese & fruit (small apple or 1/2c pineapple)
11am: green tea
12:30pm- Lunch: 5oz chicken/turkey & green veggies of some sort (broccoli/salad)
230pm- Snack: Greek yogurt or rice cakes w/ peanut butter (1 tblsp)
430pm- Off of work and STARVING, a handful of almonds/pistachios.
5pm: Weights & Cardio
7pm dinner and still starving
I think the only times I am NOT hungry is when I am actually eating. And even then sometimes I am hungry right after my snack/meal.
Whats going on?? Suggestions?

You need a meal before your evening workout. Chicken and brown rice would be good. I wouldn't let your cals drop so low either, 1500 should be the bottom. It'll also help if you skip the evening cardio. Hunger is your metabolism talking to you, telling you it needs more fuel for all of your activity. A little bit of hunger can be overlooked. Starving means eat more.

Perhaps it's the daily 3 hours of exercise that are making you so hungry.

Ok, I see... Maybe a small meal before work out and protein shake after? Im gonna give that a shot. I just get so hung up on trying to lose those darn 10lbs! I feel the 2-3 hours a day 4-5 days a week of working out are necessary.

Eat more.. the fact that your starving should mean your not in starvation mode but understand that you can go into starvation mode by creating to big a deficit between the cals you take in and the cals that you burn.. the more you exercise the more you need to eat even if your trying to lose weight.. you want a reasonable def not a huge one. Nothing wrong with the amount of exercise but you do have to eat more ..

not sure if you added your calories correctly, or how big your dinner is....but it doesnt seem to add up right...here is a sample comp. diet I have my woman on..
breakfast, 160calories (oatmeal) 120 cal (protein) TOTAL: 280
Snack: 80 calories (yogurt) TOTAL:80
lunch: 110 calories (brown rice) 200 calories (chicken/turkey) TOTAL:310
Snack: 190 Cals (pure protein bar) TOTAL: 190
Dinner: 400 Cals (chicken breast, low cal whole wheat bun, salad) TOT:400
snack: 400 cals( 5 crackers, with 2 TBS natural peanut butter) Total: 300
TOTAL FOR DAY: 1560****
if she is really hungry she will throw in 2 servings sugar free jello for another 40cals
There is nothing special to this diet...just high protein, moderate fat, moderate carbs

But!! You wouldn't have them working out 3 hours a day on this diet..would you?? ( now ofcourse noone asked her what intensity she was working out at.. makes a difference.. personally my advice would be based off the thought she was doing intense cardio not light.. and heavy lifting.. for a bikini contest that might be a bad assumption on my part)

no I have her working with weights (4) times a week on this diet, with (4)35 minute cardio sessions a week on the stepmill (not the stepper)
with this diet she has dropped almost 30lbs comming off her bulker...with 4 weeks to go, she could probably step on stage now and beat any female now in figure (but she is to big)...so in 4 more weeks, she will beat any female in bodybuilding at the show comming up...if I can get her to enter it

But if she's starving then it's clear that she's not eating enough.

the problem with hunger.....is its hard to tell if your truly hungry...or just wanna snack on stuff. cravings and hunger can feel the same, if your still hungry after dinner, its a craving.

Yeah that's what I thought.. she may need to eat more then that because she's working out 3+ hours a day .. 5 days a week ... but agin intensity needs to be accounted for here..

I do moderate to heavy lifting 4 days a week. Cardio is running 3 miles under 28 minutes, spin class, and stepper or elliptical. I also do the Proformer Pilates, not the mat pilates.
Also, sometimes I just feel like my stomach is a bottomless pit! I can feed it and feed it and not feel full! Its annoying! I think it might be hormonal though... ??

This is true, it can also be a sign of thirst. Sometimes when you are thirsty then it might come across as hunger.
It's a good idea to try drinking some water first - if that doesn't work then chances are you are hungry.
The problem is that the OP doesn't actually look like she's eating much at all.

I think the body also reacts differently coming off of a bulk as opposed to having already been in a lean out mode for awhile.

hate to tell you....but it will never be full when your on a diet.
you are doing WAY TO MUCH cardio...drop some of the cardio, and you will drop some fat.... you can do this, but not for prolonged periods of time....
do me a favor and try this.....take 2 weeks off from all your cardio, except the 30 min of running 3x a week.....then the following 2 weeks, add all your cardio back in....start rotating this every two weeks, and your body will never be able to adapt. your weight loss may slow on the weeks your taking cardio off, but the following weeks, your body will come back and drop more

Yeah that was my first thought.. but honestly I've worked with and even see this in myself sometimes when I'm cutting... sometimes hunger can be alot of things .. like boredom with diet.. I mean when I've been eating on strictly clean foods and low cals on a cut I reach periods where I'm starving all the time but not because of actuall hunger but I just want foods that aren't on my diet at the time.. but yeah that was my first thought to.. but there's not enough in this thread so far to know for sure.. I wish people post actual nutrient breakdowns and exercise intensity levels when they ask questions. It would help alot.

i know that..I have done many diets for female bb'rs...thats why I recomended that she start rotating the intensity/duration of her cardio...that way her body can not adapt

I agree with everything you are saying here, sometimes it's not just hunger because you actually hungry but just hungry for the things you aren't currently eating.
I agree, people always fail to give too much information.

Really??? Too much cardio?? Hmmm... I thought cardio was essential for stubborn belly fat loss?? Which is my greatest challenge. This is the leanest Ive ever been in my life so I know my body just does not understand whats going on
Sorry for the lack of info.. Im still new here. Im working out the kinks...

Everyone always falls into the trap of OMG I need to do cardio to burn the fat...
Yes you need cardio for a healthy heart but you burn more fat the more muscle you have.
I lost most of weight with doing a full body workout 4 times a week.

I agree, people always fail to give too much information.

I know it kinda leaves you guessing and filling in blanks! If they want real advice they need to break it all down as far as possible!
Along with details about what they want.. cause if she were looking to just lose bf .. like that sotra skinny fat look that alot of bikni models have.. or the lean muscle look that fitness models have.. ect all these looks require different things so it's helps to have all the info when people ask for advice..
Now after seeing her pics on myspace I would say that she's looking for more the slim bikini model look (just a guess) in which case I think mav's advice will server her purposes.. On the other hand if I'm wrong and she's looking to lean out and build muscle..(cause I don't think she has a lot of muscle right now) then I would suggest she go on a lean bulk with more on the weight training and less cardio and let the diet and weight training take care on the body fat..

Exactly people don't realise that training for everyone is different and so is their diet plan. Yes there's some generalities however it's not 100% written in stone.
ABSOLUTELY Goals are so so so important - Muscles vs Skinny fat - big difference...
I think because this is a body building website everyone just assumes we all want muscles.

Agreed.. alot of girls think the answer to body fat is always do more cardio and that's not true.. it's about diet, balence, a whole pakage..

No, not skinny fat!! I want to lean out and build muscle. You are correct, I have very little muscle. I didnt grow up being athletic at all. I am trying to change that now.
I am only flirting with the idea of doing bikini modeling. I dont know if I have what it takes to do fitness/figure.
I have progress pics on my body space profile.
Again, sorry for the lack of info.

Yeah I went and peaked at her myspace site to see if I could get a better idea of what kind of look she wanted.. I think she's looking for more of a dancer/bikini model look.. not alot of big muscles!! Like us!!
