Do muslims have the equivalent of a "pope"

    Just wondering.

Obviously the pope doesn't represent all Christians, but do Muslims have something like a "main Muslim"?

There is a main body on the Islamic SCHOOL OF THOUGHTS.....otherwise there is no ONE PARTICULAR man who represents Islam. The only representative are the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)/and other Prophets before him(May peace be upon them all), and the teachings to be followed are in God's word aka the Holy Quran

    Not so much, Texas bro

There are so many divisions and rivals in Islam, many sheiks and leaders have significant influence. It seems to be a tribal/territorial kind of deal.

    imo...

    Caliph

Caliph is the term or title for the Islamic leader of the Ummah, or community of Islam. It is an Anglicized/Latinized version of the Arabic word خليفة or Khalīfah, which means "successor", that is, successor to the Muhammad. Some Orientalists wrote the title as Khal?f. The Caliph has often been referred to as Ameer al-Mumineen (أمير المؤمنين), or "Prince of the Faithful," where "Prince" is used in the context of "commander." The title has been defunct since the abolition of the Ottoman Sultanate in 1924.
    [edit]Ayatollah

Ayatollah (Arabic: آية الله; Persian: آیت*الله) is a high title given to major Shia clergymen. The word means 'sign of God', and those who carry the title are experts in Islamic studies such as jurisprudence, ethics, philosophy and mysticism, and usually teach in schools (hawza) of Islamic sciences. Ayatollahs can reach the position of an Marja-e-Taqlid, which allows them to issue fatāwa (plural of "fatwa"). Also see Grand Ayatollah.
    [edit]Mullah or Mawlana

Mullah or Mawlana are Islamic clergy who have studied the Qur'an and the Hadith and are considered experts on related religious matters in this religion. The term Mullah is a variation of the word mawla(means master or lord) and Mawlana is its derivative (means my lord) and are used mainly in Central Asia and in the Sub-Continent .
    [edit]Muezzin

Muezzin (the word is pronounced this way Turkish, Urdu, etc.; in Arabic: مؤذن [IPA: mʊʔ??ːın) is any person at the mosque who makes the adhan (call to prayer) to Friday service and the five daily prayers, or Salah. Some mosques have specific places for the adhan to be made from, such as a minaret or a designated area in the mosque.
    [edit]Sahib

Sahib is a denoting an Islamic leader held in high regard by one or more other Muslims. The term is used almost exclusively in the sub-continent area. The term is Arabic in origin and can be translated as lord, master, or friend.

Muslims don't have a central religious figure who assumes the role of spiritual leadership, instead they rely on an independant scholarly movement. Islam is unique in that it grants that sort of authority to a robust encyclopedia of rigorous, academic, classical scholarly consensus spanning over a thousand years, based on the Qur'an and the Sunnah (collected teachings of the prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) according to the understanding of the earliest generations of Islam.
"The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those who tread the earth gently, and when the ignorant speak to them, they only utter peace. In the privacy of the night, they meditate on their Lord and fall prostrate."
"And they say, "Our Lord, let our spouses and children be a source of joy for us, and keep us in the forefront of the righteous." These are the ones who attain Paradise in return for their steadfastness; they are received therein with joyous greetings and peace."
    (Qur'an 25:63,74-75)

Didn't Abu Bakr and Aisha war with eachother at the Battle of ther Camel (I think that's what it's called) for dominance after Muhammeds death? Why didn't Muhammed have a method for succession or did he?

No. Aisha raised an army against Imam Ali in the battle of Camel.

Definitely do check the following link, as many issues have been addressed in there. Plus, many other very informative links can be found within it, too.

Shias believe The Prophet did in fact choose a successor. Ever since day 1 of his mission until the very last day of his life, Prophet Mohammad on multiple occasions very explicitly and clearly declared Ali's superiority over all others and declared Ali's leadership and successorship after himself.

This topic has been discussed numerous times, and very soon you'd hear the other side as well.

If you're sincerely interested in this issue examine the links I posted. OR
You could just examine the following link.

Also, whenever you see or read an attack against shia Islam, find a very clear response for it in the following website.

Personally, I highly encourage you to examine this issue. And as always, whenever you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
This post has so much information embedded in it.

P.S. I'm a Shia Muslim, just in case you didn't know.

So, the reason Shia and Sunni Muslims are divided is they disagree on who was the rightful successor to Muhammad? Why would that matter to anyone over 1000 years later?
