each to his or her own i say.
I have a few peircings (belly, nose, ears) and i dont have them to look cool, i have them because it was my choice to do so and i enjoy them. when the time comes that im over them, i can take them out, on the other hand if i got tattoo's all over my body i cant decide to "take them off" one day...
everyone has their own opinion on what beautiful is, you cant live your life trying to impress others..

I hafta debate the whole "you'll have a scar" thing. I had a bellybutton ring when I was 19 (Of course, very few people were doing it back then and we did it with a needle and a small, rigged hooped earring.) I've got no scar from that.
I do have a hideous scar on my shin, though, from a horrible wipe-out last year. I cried because I thought it was "ugly" but my very kind, very sweet hubby says that it's "sexy." Ha ha ha.
