Question Newby Girl - help please :)

    Hi everyone,

I'm in my first week of keto weighing 133lbs and being 5'6. I kick-started this with a 3 day tuna and water diet - and i mean nothing else. Not sure if that is a good starter but I made it anyway-phew!

So, now I'm doing the proper keto diet...

    101g fat
    105g protein
    17.5g carbs
1400 cals (I've worked out my calorie limit to be 1400 according to lean body mass, etc).

Anyway, do these figures sound right?

Also, is the 17.5 carbs supposed to be total carbs or just counting net carbs? I've been counting 17.5g as total but I'm hardly allowed any veg with this, and I love my veggies!

Any help appreciated. I've done a fair bit of reading but not everyone mentions net carbs so I'm not sure which is right.

    Thanks!

Your carb limit sounds good. 17.5 should be the number you get after you subtract dietary fiber. For example, just checked out my spinach it has Total Carbohydrates: 2g then right underneath that it says Dietary Fiber: 1g. Subtract dietary fiber from total carbs, in this case you'd count 1g to your daily total. Hope that helps.

Yes, should be net carbs. When I started (3 weeks ago) I didn't eat ANY veggies, very bad. Then it took me two weeks to consciously count net carbs. Definitely track fiber and aim for 20-25 NET CARBS. Enjoy your salads, broccoli, etc.

Good luck and welcome. I recommend starting a KetoLog since there aren't many women posting about this diet. We need more, we need to build the community.

    This.

How many ladies are there around here? It's hard to know when some peeps don't have pics either. Then again, I'm easily confuzzled.

RuthiePoo81, welcome! Yes, net carbs, what annie said. XD

Also if you aren't doing so already, I suggest getting a fitday.com account [free] to track all your macros, calories and stuff. It is an incredible tool and I know I'd be lost without it.

Sounds fine. 17g of carbs doesn't sound much, but it translates to a lot of broccoli and spinach and stuff like that.
    65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.
