Drinking more than one gallon of water a day?

My ultimate goal is to lose fat, I am lifting 3-4 days a week and doing cardio on the others. Everyone says drink a gallon of water a day. Im currently around 260 and my lean mass would probably be around 180. So you can see how much I need to lose. Is it going to be more benificial to drink 2 gallons of water a day instead of one?

I can drink two gallons a day, I work at home and dont have many places to be etc, but Im pissing myself silly.

What is the extra benefit of drinking 2 instead of 1 if any?

None. 1 gallon is more than enough.

If he wants to drink 2 gallons, let him

The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to taking in an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.

Agreed. Drinking one gallon of water a day is as much as you would need.

A gallon in a day isn't really that hard to get in at all.

It's easier if you space it out. Get a 1L bottle, make a conscious effort to drink it 2 times before lunch and you'll be more than half finished with your daily gallon. I'm halfway through my first bottle already.

Exactly, being conscious about your effort to get in an adequate amount of water is the key.
