Greek Yogurt Question

I live in a small town in Canada, and it's difficult to find greek yogurt.
After a lot of searching, I've seen a lot of posts recommending straining normal yogurt in cheese cloth, for thicker texture, a 'faux greek yogurt'.

My question is: Does straining the yogurt just remove water, or do you lose any nutritional value- such as protein?

Greek yogurt is strained yogurt. You lose water and some whey. Not enough to worry about.

it won't yield as much strained bc of the whey being removed but i'd imagine the cals are the same.
