Ask not what your DOMS can do for you...
... but what you can do for your DOMS!
also titled:
Why I HURT like a DOG!!
Dont know about the rest of y'all, but it seems that, unless I REALLY damage something, I dont get the soreness the next day, but the day-after-next... and its usually the day I should be going at it again!
Long ago I learned to free-base ibuprofen and that usually takes care of it, but sometimes (like the last leg day) I prefer to 'tough it out'...
(Hurts so good... c'mon baby, make it hurt so good )
Like last leg day... I felt fine the next day (Arm day), and then... well, lets just say that when I get out of a chair... I wish I had one of those that lifts you out!
I dont usually have a problem sleeping because of them, but when its in the shoulder... the counting sheep are usually jumping on them!
Im just REALLY glad yesterday was an 'off day'!

Soreness for me is usually doing too much weight or one set too many. Avoidable to some, but it only takes me closer to where I want to go. I swear by Aleve in my old age, not every day but once a week I have the need for it. And shoulders, is the new "S" word.

I have noticed a definite lengthening in the delay of DOMS. When in college, I might get sore that evening from a tough morning workout. Now it is usually 48 hours. I did chest on Monday at lunch and I am just starting to feel a twinge, I know by tomorrow afternoon I will not be able to put on my coat without going v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y...
I do legs on Friday. It makes Sunday the true day of rest.

are there any muscles/muscle groups that just wont get any DOMmage no matter what you do? My medial delts are like that. Now I know that DOMS doesn't necessarily equate a good workout but it would be nice to feel something every now and then. I've tried everything. I've tried high volume, I've tried low volume and high tension, I've tried a mix of the two, I've tried supersets... all to no avail. Oh well.
But yeah, anyone else know where I'm coming from?

That's when I get hit that day or the next day... but the 'good stuff' usually waits for the 3rd day. (IMO)

Havent seen any research on the correlation between degree of DOMS and amount of hypertrophy over a period of time... would make a good one tho, I tink! (dont I bro-sci gud? )

Unless I do major damage, I almost always get hit on the 3rd day... and thats been true since the mid-20s.... maybe HRT is in my future...

My last set of (whatever) is usually a drop-set from the 'top of the pyramid'... and so far has been GREAT for feeling like manure later!

I cannot remember ever having DOMS from calf work... but growing up a 'clydesdale' Ive always had good fetlocks...
Have U been able to get a pump on the shoulders on any of these routines? I still have some rotator issues when I do shoulders that commands the majority of my attention when delts are involved, but I HAVE been to the point where lifting arm overhead was more than a broadway production!

The first day after my first training session with my trainer I wasn't sore at all. I was patting myself on the back for being in better shape than I thought that I was. Then the next day came and it felt like I had been run over by a dump truck.

There was a time...
When I lived in Vegas that my apt complex had an outdoor jacuzzi by the pool.... and my door was like, right next door...
Kinda like my own personal hottub!
It made 'those-little-aches-and-pains' SOOOOOO much beddah!
I miss that place!

I told the gang at the gym that they should have 'hoverrounds' available for leg day...
the kid behind the counter didnt catch it, I think.

17 year old nephew bothered me for a hour to play one on one basketball back on thanksgiving. kept telling him no, he kept saying i was scared he was finally able to beat me, i told him i wasnt dead yet, of course i played. problem was i was dressed up, had on dress shoes. not 5 mins into the game i knew i hurt my toe, at home that nite took my shoe off, it was swollen big time. kept lifting on it, golfing and hooping, would complain. the wife nagged me to death meant "convinced" me to go see the doc. after 2 months i knew something was wrong. its been 3 days since my leg workout and im still walking funny

I found out this week that 'good mornings' mean the next day, the morning sucks! Sitting as my desk for an hour, I go to get up and my legs were killing me! lol.
