Squat Balance-Stability

Hey. A couple of months ago I realized I wasn't going very low on my squats, so in an attempt to better my squats, I have started to try to go atleast paralell during squats and maybe lower one day. The problem Im having is that when I get paralell I have no balance and have to hold on to something to not fall backwards(or forwards), even without weight. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyhoo, what Im wondering is could my problem be that I have no core strength, and that is what is making me so unstable(I also struggle with balance on split squats)? Should I start doiing core work to better my squats or could it be something else(like Im just not coordinated)? Sorry for the long read, and Ill be eternally grateful for any help you can give me!

I am guessing that it is a flexibility problem. You should workout your form with just bodyweight squats before putting additional weight on the back. Ask some good squatters to critique your form in the gym. Dont be discouraged, squats are hard which is why they are the best thing you can do for the lower body.
