The difference is pretty noticeable on 40+" screens or if you are going to watch close to the screen like PC or laptop. For large projected images it is a must... watching Lord of the Rings DVD on a 130" screen looks like the quality of a bootleg after watching any bluray movie.

Make sure you have an HDTV and set the bluray player output to 1080p.
If you don't see a difference... you are either blind or retarded.

I have a PS3 and a standalone Blu Ray player back home and you can really tell the difference between Blu Ray and standard dvds. Planet Earth on Blu Ray = mind blown, load blown.

It's a bit better build quality than DVD's but not much improvement.

I have a PS3 there is a difference you just need to make sure your connection to your player to your TV is HDMI or 5 Component
S-video or yellow video in will only be 480i
I have only been buying classics, action movies, in Blue-ray, I haven't been buying comedy's in blue ray.

Ever? I got PS3 back when it was first released; I already had a Sony Blu Ray player at that stage.
Still got PS3; now Panasonic Blu Ray player. Only about 50 titles on Blu Ray at the moment; in addition to roughly 400 DVDs.

Have had a Blu Ray for over a year. It's almost painful to watch regular DVDs these days.
