Proper way to do interval sprints on treadmill

The treadmill takes 4-5 seconds to get up to the set speed. Do those 4-5 seconds up and 4-5 when your going down count when doing interval training? I also heard people do interval by sprinting and then jumping off and straddling the treadmill when they rest. I find this dangerous. What are some ideas to do this on the treadmill.

Mate, I doubt 4-5 secs is going to make a difference at all. Once you've reached your time limit on the high intensity interval drop the speed down and recover and up it again when it's time.

Again, those few sec's aren't critical. If the treadmill is at home try programming the routine in and you don't have to worry about a thing.

Consistency is the key, but a few sec's here and there won't make a diff.

Also, not a smart idea to be jumping off or onto a belt travelling at high speed. Slowing your pace down gradually is probably a good thing for your heart rate!

    Cheers,
    Ed
