How much do UFC fighters benchpress?

Vague question I know.

I know that raw strength isn't everything in the UFC, but still I can't help but wonder. Take 225lb for example. What type of fighter should be expected to lift this amount? BJ Penn? GSP? Anderson Silva? Randy Couture? Frank Mir?

I'm at a total loss with this one. Hopefully you guys can shed some light on this.

There is no way to know that.....I know gsp dumbell presses 120s for a set of 4 supersetted with medicine ball tosses .....so I'm sure he can throw up between 275 and 315 .... But he is stronger then average that's for sure

Andersen weighs over 200 pounds, I'm pretty sure he could put up 225.

GSP was bench pressing 120 dumbbells at an incline, pretty sure he has no problem with 225 barbell

I saw BJ working out in an airport gym killing time until his flight and he repped out 185 for 12. He did struggle on the last rep though.

i think doing 1.5 your bodyweight for like 5-10 reps is whats expected for most athletes

I only do Muay Thai. Nope I dont bench twice my weight, never been a strong person to be honest. Havent benched with the barbell in a while, best ive done is 100 dbs

it just doesnt seem to apply to real life situations very well

maybe pushing someone when you grapple but thats about it, and even then incline bench is more effective i would think

so for me thats about 300 x 5-10.... 300 x 10 would = a max of like, 400

that dosent seem unreasonable for an athlete

300 x 5 = a max of about 340, i havent done a max on flat bench in a while but i can incline bench 315 for one, so i dont think this calculation is out of the question

I played college football at JUCO and DIV II. When I was a junior and senior I could bench 1.5 times my weight 5 times easy. I weighed 220 and could bench 330 easy 5 times. I can do that now, but I'm older and have a RPM of 385 @ 220. Could bench 3x5x355 a few months ago, could only get 4 and 3 on the 4th and 5th set, was 228 then though. Some people will say that strength doesn't matter its all technique, but honestly tahts what weak people say. I think in todays MMA game you need every advantage you CAN get.
