wrong. lol, the corporations will be able to mass produce it and sell it for wayless than homebrew. alcohol is easier to make than weed, and u dont see it being sold by people individually.
lol @ ppl thinking rogue farmers will do a better job making pot than huge corporations with lots of money.

federally yes but in terms of inside the boundary of this state (california) our laws have the final say, and according to the citizens of california marijuana is now decriminilized and legal for medical use. DEA has acknolwedged that this is our decision and aslong as the clinics continue to pay there taxes... medical marijuana isnt going anywhere away from cali. nowone has bud as good or in such a consistant supply as cali, you can litterly get pretty much good bud anywhere here. kinda hard to say that pretty much evreywhere else.
edit: and lol@you cali hating asshats.

I don't smoke and I never have, so prices of cannabis won't affect me. What does affect me is the ridiculously high cost of living in CA, coupled with living in highest taxed state in the United States. All the other states, you don't have a clue what being taxed feels like.
Low level dealers will find something else to peddle, but you're legalizing a drug that has been studied extensively that provides outstanding therapeutic responses.
There will be a medium price that is reached. If it's a state government ran industry yes, plan on it to be overpriced. If the state allows it to be a regulated private industry to run it, plan on the prices to be competitive and affordable.
There are so many job opportunities to be made if this were to become an industry. First there will be tons of paperwork which require secretarial jobs. Buildings need to be built, reviving the construction industry. Computer programs and networks need to be integrated and created, the tech industry will be needing personnel. Agriculture will need workers, scientists will be needed to ensure purity, the list goes on. This is a completely new industry, it will require all types of people, and will employ a vast majority of work types. Unemployment...?
This.
Fine, I would love for California to remove itself from the United States. We are the only state to contain all types of environmental extremes, spare a rain forest. We can farm and cultivate crops, as well as raise livestock, with some of the most fertile land in the nation. We can grow year round by the way, since we aren't affected by snow in the agricultural lands. If we need oil, we can drill off our coast. Yes it may be detrimental to some areas, but we don't need yours. The Sierra Nevada mountains provide large quantities of water for our irrigation, we have so much at times we sell it to other states. We have numerous deep water shipping ports that serve as the main drop off for many of our nations imports, so we'll just tax the rest of the nation for using them when we break off, sucks for you land locked states. You can say we'll need coal for power, but if we were to become independent nuclear will suffice, or renewable energy. Either way you look at it, we are a self sufficient state. We have almost a 50 billion dollar deficient and we're still functioning, no one came close to us. So sure, our state government needs an overhaul, but as a state, we don't need you.

Who said anyone is hoping California fails? The Cali government already has. They're bankrupt. The rest of the country is going to have to bail them out.
They need to take care of the immigration problem. I think booting illegal immigrants out of California would have a greater impact than legalizing marijuana. Especially now that unemployment is high and people are looking for those jobs that "Americans just don't want to do."

That's probably all true. The problem is, your politicians would be more concerned with the environment than your economy surviving. If you went out and did all the things you just mentioned, you wouldn't be in a deficit. I'd love for Californians to go get some oil and sell it to the rest of the country. I'd love for California to go build nuclear power plants, as well as the rest of the country. But the extreme left in California would never allow a brown mountain swallow or some fish species to be displaced because you needed irrigate your food supplies.
So in the midst of all of these opportunities, the politicians turn to legalizing pot?

people i know will always buy local.. they protested walmart where i live and dont really like big chain stores. Its like your local meatmarket,bar,etc.. I f you treat customers good have a good base your business will suceed. Aug dealers are smart guys...they just picked the wrong business. Now they can take thyre game legal. big distrust in big corporations today and within the weed community.

California does have progressive views... but they are extreme, and I think that's where they get into trouble.
I don't think anyone can predict what legalizing pot would do. We may get some extra tax money, but will it contribute to poverty? Taxing the hell out of something never seems to work. Who's going to be buying the pot? I'd guess mostly middle to lower class.
I've been behind a mother and daughter in a Walmart where the little girl wanted some of the candy in aisle. Of course she was scolded by the mother her then threw her carton of cigarettes up on the counter. I've known people that could barely pay the bills, but they ALWAYS had a carton of cigarettes. Would we just be contributing to this?
I don't know the answers. This is just my life experience with what i've seen with cigarettes.

theyre building solar panels in death valley right now. they calculate 10 sq. miles is enough to supply the u.s.. no more oil,no nuclear waste, jobs maintaining the panels as well as the infrastructure to support it. Not good for the rest of the country and corporations so they try to shoot down these ideas.

I think it's just the opposite. I don't smoke much, but when I do I get messed up. The difference is that I KNOW i can't drive properly. Unlike when you drink you get that false sense of empowerment.
I know other have different tolerance levels, but I'd venture to say the natural tendencies of the way the drug works on your brain is fairly accurate.
To be sure, I'm for this everywhere. It's always better to have some sort of regulations than to have none and make things totally illegal. People will always find there ways around the laws... just like now, only now there is the change of culture to try and capitalize on something that will be happening either way.Last edited by super shocker; 02-23-2009 at 08:32 PM.

People don't go across the boarder for alcohol or make their own cigerretes do they (at least not in mass numbers)?
So the same would apply here. Why go to a shady dealer or some random guy on the street when you could get it from someplace close which you trust? It's just like fruit. There are plenty of vendors who sell fruit on the corner, but people usually buy from stores because they trust them more and they are more convenient.
Its not going to solve everything, but it will go a long way to stopping illegal drugs coming over from Mexico and other countries.1 Stripe Blue Belt, Gracie Barra BJJ (Reps to BJJ/MMA brahs)

The oil and coal industry probably lobbies hard against them too.
Solar power is all well and good, but everything I've seen/heard/read suggests that solar power is not very efficient (as far as catching what the sun produces and creating usable power). We need nuclear power.
Penn and Teller did a great episode of their show on HBO (or is it showtime?) about nuclear power. It's on youtube somewhere... just made me believe even more how much we need nuclear power.
If Californians knew what they were doing, they would legalize pot and not tax it at all... then throw a 500% tax on Cheetos.
edit: The Cheetos comment was sarcasm for those unable to detect it.Last edited by jsVR-4; 02-23-2009 at 08:45 PM. Reason: just making sure..

I seen the penn and teller show and they make good points but theyre not scientists. Im sure the plants would be safe for a while but cost cutting and accidents happen and things seem to slip through the cracks. Then we would still have to deal with the waste. Better to invest in technology and education to develop better ways to acheive our goals. we can do it,hell we put a man on the moon......supposedly.

I asked questions in my post and said I didn't have the answers. I gave my life's experience with cigarettes.
Attempt to answer the questions if you have the answers. I was just asking for opinions. I think this will create a high taxed product that people who are already suffering (in the current economy) are going to pay.
I disagree with how California is run. Why do I get negged for that? I'm accused of hoping California fails... go find where I said that in my posts. I'm simply suggesting California (probably more than any other state) has the ability to help it's own economy and the economy of the country if it would utilize the resources available. But the leadership of the state is too extreme. I don't think legalizing pot is going to have much effect either way until the immigration problem is solved.

They aren't scientists, but had some on. They tackled the safety issue. It seemed relatively safe. The containers that transported the old fuel rods were nearly unbreakable. They had a pretty compelling argument.
Do I want one in my back yard? I'd have to think about it.... =P

Not just that this economy would benefit great for it..billions and billions of $$ are spent on the war on drugs! 65% is agianst marijuana!! OUR PRISON SYSTEMS are over crowded, so we going to waste lot of $$$ of our tax payers money building new prison, yet over 50% are in of marijuana related charges!! THESE LAWS MAKE NO SENSE!! tobacco and alcohol 10x more damaging then weed, and yet its legal! LEGALIZING THE GREEN IS THE ANSWER, should have been long long time ago!
