I been thinking about this scenario for a while and it's got a lot of options but here it is...
You have the ball after getting a defensive rebound and then you shoot it at the wrong hoop while being fouled in the process (shooting foul) and it goes in the other teams hoop. What happens?? Does the other team get 2 points and you 1 foul shot or do they get 2 points and you get 3 foul shots (shooting at the other hoop so your behind the 3-pt line of your own basket you should be shooting at). It's quite a scenario to figure out and I can't so I figure someone here can help out.

So what happens? Does the bucket count for the other team? What's the outcome of the whole scenario?

Team A gets defensive board and goes back up to put the ball in the wrong basket. For some reason Team B fouls Team A on the shot, but the shot goes in. Since its all backwards, refs would probably call like a reach-in foul or loose ball or something, not knowing what to do. In reality the basket should count, and it should be Team A's ball.

I have played basketball since 2nd grade and played in college. I believe what would happen is that the 2 points would count for the other team. The foul committed would just give the person who was fouled the ball back. They would not shoot a free throw for it. However, out of my 28 years of playing basketball, I never once had that experience! So I can only say, I think I'm right!

How so? So if a kid is shooting a full court shot at the correct basket and gets fouled he doesn't get to shoot?? that's not right, so why would it be different for shooting at the wrong basket

Well it should be 10 pts for fouling a dude shooting the ball in your hoop. Supidity is beside the point.
It is a comon back court foul. Like say you grab a rebound there is like a min left. You decide to be cute and shoot the ball from like 3/4 court when they come over to foul you. You will just get a reach in or common foul.

Basket counts just as it would if the player went for the rebound and accidently tipped the ball in. The foul would be a non-shooting foul (unless they are out of team fouls) because the player would'nt be concidered to be in the act of shooting. Some players jump, as if to shoot, then make a pass to trick the defence. The refs would give them a non-shooting foul if hit in the air while passing, and since they weren't aiming for their basket it would be almost the same offence.....yeah, yeah, yeah, sounds good to me ;-)

I think your entitled to a foul shot because the foul was in the act of shooting even though it was the wrong basket, but who would foul on the wrong basket. Every time I seen a wrong basket shot (playing and coaching) the other team always cleared a path, if I was coaching I would argue for that foul shot.
