Last night my Friend Dennis joined the Gym with us, he is reckless, (jokes too much runs around like a nut and talks to all the woman in the gym).
Anyway, we are doing pull-ups he is notorious with pull-ups, he did them throughout his bid and he mastered them.
So I listen to him. I did 4 sets of 5 reps with 45lbs. He said to me "John on your last set take the weight off go as wide a grip as you can and pull up until your chin is over the bar"
So me like and ass I did it and WHAM, I f'cked up my left shoulder. First time EVER in all of my years of training did I ever get an injury performing an exercise. The pain wasn't so bad last night but this morning? The pain is so bad that I can't even lift a f'cking pencil over my head
I am icing it and then heating it. I am hoping this pain wont be for too long, but damn tonight was suppose to be Chest, I doubt very much I will be able to go.
Injuries SUCK ASS!!

not a good idea to be putting heat on it this soon afterwards....
Ice will be much better for you at this point."Some people are like Slinkies. They're not really good for anything but they sure bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs."

Ice it for 15 minutes every hour but don't use any heat.
Get some biofreeze or freeze-it and give that a shot as well. I run through that stuff for my knees, elbows and wrist.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder I'm sure you'll be good as new in no time. Like the others said just keep putting ice on it and make sure you use real ice and not those cold pack things.
It may be a small world but I'd hate to have to paint it.

I have had several injuries (alot of them being shoulder injuries) over the years due to improper form, to much weight for a given exersice, having a bad spotter.....etc. IMO (experienced opinion.....I wish I did not have any experience with injury...lol) I would just ice once a hour for 20 minutes for 24 to 48 hours.....or as close to that as possible. After that, ice it for 20 minutes every so often (as needed). I would not train at all for several days or you risk more serious injury (like I did......and had to have surgery...twice on one shoulder) for now.
I know you do not want to but take atleast a week off (no training at all......not even legs or cardio). At the end of a week or so if it still hurts (any at all) go see a doc and have him look at it as you may (hope not......prob not) have torn something in there but as u know all to well.........it sucks to be out of the gym for a longer period of time..........be smart as I know u r..........I wish u luck......
BTW, I would not do anykind of stretching or anything for the first week or so until you know what the prob is or u could make it worse. After a week or so if the pain leaves then start stretching movements (lightly) for a few days and slowly go back to training (very light)........But if the pain is still there after a week or so.......as I said earlier........do not train or stretch and go see a doc. Never work through anykind of joint pain such as this. All the advice I'm giving here is what I was told by sports med doc's and PT'S over the years........Keep us informed........

Oh yeah........I forgot to mention this. A good way to ice it is to fill a styrofoam cup with water put it in freazer after it freezes take it out cut two thirds off the bottom of cup that way u can hold the styrofoam cup at top and apply ice to injury without freezing ur hands off. Have someone take the ice and gently message the area and all around it with the ice until it is numb (no more than 20 min at a time though).

When you say it hurt a bit when it happened but is worse this morning & you can't lift it over your head, this all sounds like when I had a rotator cuff injury. I went a few days and it wasn't getting better fast enough.
My wife confinced me to go to her chiropractor. I resisited because I doubted he could help. I finally gave it a shot. The guy does ActiveReleaseTherapy and after one session I knew he did something right. After 3 sessions/days I was back to training.
The chiropractor's diagnosis is that the muscle in the shoulder was actually shifted a bit and getting pinched by the rotator. Once it was back in place everything was fine.
This may not be your problem but it may be worth the visit.
