    Calories Burned Lifting Weights?

I can account for calories I eat.
I can account pretty close for calories burned doing cardio.
But how do you figure calories burned while lifting weights?

    Just want an idea?

    Thanks in advance!

Without a correctly calibrated HR monitor its basically a guess. It all depends your exertion level. What may be "hardcore" lifting in your mind may be a warm up for some and overtraining for another. The only way to get a true number is to get tested and then measure. Same with cardio.

I add all my activities into fitday. Not too accurate I suppose but better than pure guesswork!

I use fitday to record my daily calorie intake and expenditure, that way it's all in one place and easier to keep track of.

I started wearing a heart rate/calories burned watch I bought at academy.

Seems to match up with the elliptical machine...but i know it's not entirely accurate.

the watch along with thedailyplate.com really broke it down on how bad i was undereating.

    This is easy.

Don't count the calories from lifting weight.

If you're lifting in a way that will preserve or build muscle, you're not going to burn jack squat for calories. I'm 230lbs, lift heavy and burn maybe 300kcal in an hour while lifting. It just aint worth worrying about.

Sure, you could do a circuit style routine, or short rest, etc. and torch 600kcal in an hour, but then you're basically just doing cardio, and not getting the real benefits of resistance training because you have to drop the weight substantially in order to do it.

I wear a HRM to determine it.
It varies for me, depending on what I am doing.
Today it was 300 for 1 hour of lifting and abs
