What is the right angle for incline dumbbell press?

Okay, what is the ideal angle for incline dumbbell press? I have heard reliable sources say everything from 20 degrees to 65 degrees. I was thinking about trying to do 2 sets at 25-30 degrees, 2 at 40 degrees and 2 at 55-60 degrees though I am worried this won't pump my chest as much as it would staying and concentrating at one angle. Let me know what you guys are doing and what's working for you.

Why not just do 45? It's in the middle of laying down and being in an upright position haha.

I used to do about 45 degrees, but I have read a lot of articles saying it should be lower and the following link seems to make a strong case for a higher angle.

there is no best angle, go a couple workouts at 20-30 and then try it at 50-60 for a couple, see what feels better.

I too say 45 degrees. If you are going to go any lower you might as well go all the way down and do a flat db press. If you go any higher you might as well do a seated shoulder press.

So you say that it should be a lower angle, but the video makes a stronger case for a higher angle?

do a variation of angles, i always switch mine up as should you to get the best results.. as ive said before nothing is set in stone here so go by trial and error, where half the people on the forum would say its too much incline "your hitting your delts too much" i still do it and make great gains ( just an example )

What do you think about my idea of doing 2 sets for 3 different angles each chest day. Or should I do one angle each day and change it up often?

    Uh huh.
    Lift smart.

I find 45 engages my delts a bit too much. I prefer a 30 degree incline.

I prefer 15-30 degrees. Usually the first notch on a Cybex adjustable bench.

I've been doing high incline (per the Charles Glass video) and have been seeing results where I need them. You need to tailor your workout to your needs.

I usually do them at 45 degrees. Not sure if there is an 'optimal' angle, I think personal experimentation would be better.

Once you find the best angle in which you find the best focused contraction when pushing with your upper chest then that is the best angle for you.
For me it's typically 30 degrees. Anything over involves more shoulders.

Not sure it matters so much really.

As an aside i once had to do seated front shoulder press on a smith machine, the chair was broken so it wouldn't sit up to 90degrees so i had to do the exercise with the chair at about 80degrees, woke up the next day with the strongest (healthy) pec doms i've ever had. I might give that a go again actually on a future chest day.

Our gym's incl bb bench is not adjustable. We have no choice. It's about at 40 degrees. Also have seen the biggest chests there... I would say 40*

it doesn't have to be a drastic degree to emphasize the upper pecs. many people will say the same thing about decline, just he slightest decline is enough to emphasize lower and take delts out. i'd say do a couple chest days at one degree, go with a more/less extreme degree the following couple chest days, and just keep trying out different ones.

with that said, i prefer 30 degree incline. i believe that's what most incline benches are set at as well.
