It'll work that is for sure. Instead of that why don't you try a protein like phase 8. Take 2 scoops of it in 16oz of skim milk and then add 1 cup of oats. Do that twice per day. 720 calories per shake.... 86 grams of protein; 90g carbs. I would take that over a mass gainer any time. Might not be the easiest going down, but it will be effective.
