it kinda looks like the freakin gas tank.
based on the pic.
idk what kiind of car that is but thats what it looks like on my sisters car and i just fixed that and its in the general same spot

Looks like the under carriage of your trunk where the spare tire usually is. Look inside your trunk to see if there is a big damn dent which looks like the opposite of the pic you posted.

edit: I presume if it was the gas tank then there could possibly be leaks or a disruption in gas pressure.

Usually the gas tank hasa big heat shield around it. I dont see one around the part in the pic so thats why I think its your spare tire holder/trunk.
