I thought about shaving mine too!
Now my hair is down to my waist and has been for about 20 years, but as I get older I find myself not wanted to go through the hassle of combing it all out everyday. The women seem to either really like it or hate it altogether. But when you have it this long it sure is hard to cut it off. One day maybe.

I used to have like 15-16 inch long hair back when I was in highschool. Then I shaved it completely because I was self-concious about my widows peak, which I've had since birth. Now it's short and just like, un-hideable. it looks terrible, I have like a 40 year old man's hairline and I'm 19. I don't really know what to do with it.
I'm thinking about growing it long again because thats the hairstyle I like (I'm a metalhead) but I really don't know. I have a bad head shape for shaving it. I'm kind of screwed.. hahha.
There isn't really much we can do. I'm not LOSING mine, its just that it never was there LOLsink, suffer, self-destruct

I was losing mine by age 30. I'd like to have a full head of hair back, have considered the transplant deal. But they never show you the BACK of the head in those infomercials.
I get mine buzzed on #1 May through October, #2 for the rest of the year. When it gets long enough to comb, I'm off to get it cut.

Guy I worked with got a transplant about 3 years ago. I think he paid about $5,000 and it looked bad (Dolly Head.) I'm sure you can get very good ones done, but I just shave mine.
One thing I notice is that guys with skinny necks look weird with shaved heads. If your neck is kind of skinny, you may want to start working it (neck chain, dumbbell neck presses, or whatever) and try the shaved thing again.

In 2009, transplants can and do work. The comment about seeing the back of the head refers to the FUT method of transplantation, or "Strip Method". This is not the only method used these days.
The latest technique that's been pioneered over the last 8-10 years is the FUE technique (Follicular Isolation Extraction). FUE does not cut & remove a strip of one's scalp; just 1-4 follicle groupings removed, one at a time, by a punch that is .5-1mm wide. More labor intensive and time consuming, yes, but worth it if you do not want a large scar across the back of your head.
In the past decade, the FUE technique has become quite refined, offering yields of up to 90% with the right doctor(s).
Personally, I've researched this topic over the years and decided that FUE was for me. I had my surgery over a year ago and I am very glad I did. Best part is, it's undetectable as far as how the transplanted hairs sit amongst the native hairs. The angle, spacing, etc... everything appears as it should in nature. In addition, I personally have no scarring from FUE.
Anyway, I'm not here to give a plug to any doctors, clinics or sites, so for those who might be interested, feel free to drop me a private message and I'll do my best to answer any questions, offer advice or suggestions.

Well, I can sympathize with your situation. If it was me, I would probably be tempted to consider hair transpants too.
But I guess in the end, if there is nothing you can do about it, then you should probably just shave it. Some women will probably love it, and others might not, due to varying tastes. But then again, nobody is everyone else's cup of tea, even if you have a full head of hair. Hell, I'm considered short, by most standards, and some women won't even look twice at me. In the end, it probably comes down to how you see yourself. Not so much how everyone see's you; because it's not as though we are all accepted by everyone anyways.
Going bald at a young age is not very common; but going bald at an older age is very common. So expect yourself to be in good company as time progresses. I've been noticing my hair thinning out in certain areas, as of late.
Bottom line, each one of us has our flaws. And if we don't, give it time, and age will eventually do us the favor of granting them to us. :-)Commitment.

Shave it.
I started losing my hair at 21. Once I turned 26 (now 39) my receding hair was getting worse, but not to bad, but on a dare a friend of mine from an old job dared me to shave my head (I always had fairly short hair) and I dared him to cut his pony-tail, long story short...the next day I was bald and my friend had no pony-tail.
It was the best decision I made. I could never imagine doing the comb over, I think it looks so ridiculous, especially on a windy day when guys fight with that one strand like no one notices.
The worse part about shaving your head, is the actual shaving it. I hate doing it daily, now I know how women feel about shaving their legs, well...kind of. Oh and NEVER EVER try nair on your head, yes...I was stupid and tried it once, it burned the hell out of my scalp.

One thing I do not like about the shaved head thing...
Some people, especially women, want to touch or rub my head. I do not like that, and I will back away. Some of them are taken aback by that. The noyv! Others will ask "can I touch/rub it?" "No! Can I touch your breasts?""Go home, have a beer and smash something. That's what I would do" - Unknown (but probably Thor).
