****ing insane transformation, him and Arnold came from an athletic background(soccer). My theory is that guys who played soccer in their teen years produce more testosterone, testosterone levels are correlated with mitochondrial profile and playing a sport like soccer stresses the ATP-CP system leading to mitochondrial biogenesis. A high VO2 capacity also decreases the amount of cortisol released post workout. Anyways I made this thread because I was curious as to which style of training method Ruhl used when he was young, HIT or Volume?

How did Ruhl train when he grew from 120-231 in 5 years? HIT or Volume?

That is un-fcuking-believable in the time frame!
RE the idea of playing sport when young increasing ability to add muscle; I think there is some credibility, but I would like to point out that Dorian Yates never played any sports when he was a kid, yet as soon as he begun bodybuilding, went from skinny to Mr Olympia in about 9 years.

c'mon now......I never claimed anything of the sort, never done roids so who knows what I coudl or what I could not do while on them, the simple fact fo the matter is that BB is not important enough to me to do them, it's not something I'm willing to do.
don't be niave and think roids had nothing to do with it, I'm sure he trained really hard, ate like a horse and did everything eh could during that timeframe and I give him credit for that but roids play as big-if not bigger a role than the other factors that went into him putting on that weight.

he gained about 100lb of muscle over 5 years.....going off the OP's numbers, roughly an average of 20lbs a year.
no one can do that naturally and most people can't do that even with all the roids in the world. and i think that was the OP's point.
its obvious he juiced, but so do a lot of people..........so the question is a valid one IMO.

Probs even more, he was skinny fat in the first pic, ripped in the 2nd. More like 22-23 lbs of lean muscle mass per year. And he wouldn't have used gear the first time he started training, that would be madness.
And Ruhl does have freak genetics, you don't need to start off big to have freak genetics. My routine:
Mon - Biceps
Tues - Triceps
Wed - Biceps
Thurs - Triceps
Fri - Biceps
Sat - Triceps
Sun - Rest
You can't see back and legs, don't waste your time with that nonsense!

He trained like a mofo and ate like one too...
''There’s this battle over waterboarding at places like Guantanamo Bay. I think that they should just say, “Hey, if you guys don’t talk, you have to see Hercules In New York.” I guarantee those guys would talk much faster. You don’t need to do waterboarding or anything else. That’s the ultimate threat.''

From 140 to 243
OK so I was wrong he went from 140 to 243
"In 1995 after having recovered from my shoulder injury, I competed in the Bachgau Cup in Babenhausen weighing in at 243 lbs and won the heavyweight and overall title. One week later I received 2nd place at the Grosser Preis von Hessen."
But still it's ****ing insanity.
