    question about drop sets

    question about drop sets

    i was wondering when doing drop sets lets say for barbell press i start of with 315, than, 275, than 225, 185, would that be considered 1 set or 4 sets total


    because i'm doing them for years now, and i ways wonder this

    are you repping or just doing each once?

    ive always known of drop sets as warm up, start at a high weight, rep as many times as you can. lower weight. give like 30 second rest, rep, repeat etc.

    repping, after 315 with reps i strip the weight down to 275 and go right back on the bench and go at it a gain

    I've always counted them as one set. I do them with curls, but don't do three sets in a row. Hurts like hell so I tend to start off my bi workout with a set, then halfway through my workout throw in another one, then finish up with one. Its obviously different with a bench and people would get pissed if you left it racked up while you were doing other exercises, but they will get over it.

    I added warm up in, what you just go straight to doing 315 for sets? if you want, remove warm up, and there you go.

    warm ups are warm ups i dont inlcude them in the number of sets i do, after i warm up than thats when the sets start with 315 than i strip the weight as fast as possible and get my ass back on the bench

    Do drop sets at the end of your workout to completely obliterate the muscle. For example if you're doing shoulders go to the machine and put it on the heaviest weight you can do for 5 reps, then drop 5 pounds to another 5 reps, keep doing this till you are lifting no weight at all.

    When I do drop sets I save if for the last exercise and usually do it on a machine.

    Shoulder day I will go on the press machine and do something like this. It's 1 long set with no rest in between reps.

    100lbs - 5 reps
    95lbs - 5 reps
    90 lbs - 5 reps
    85 lbs -5 reps
    80 lbs - 5reps
    75 lbs - 5 reps.........etc.etc.etc. till I get to 5 lbs -5 reps, then pull the pin out and do as many reps as I can, even without any weight it feels as if you are lifting tons of weight.

    so basiclly u only do one set on shoulder machines is what u say since u said its one long set, but does everyone count it like that

    I count each drop set as a different set


    Shoulders would be like this for DB Shoulder Press for example

    Set 1
    60lbs DB * 8
    45lbs DB * 10
    30lbs DB * 10

    Set 2
    55lbs * 12
    45lbs * 9
    35lbs * 9

    etc etc.


    But I might do for exercises like chest fly a big drop set as my only set
    50lbs * 10, 45lbs * 10, 40lbs * 8, 35lbs* 8, 30lbs* 8, 20lbs* 15 etc
