    Tyson squats

one of my buddies at the gym today told me about tyson squats, what they are is you get a deck of cards and put out how ever many cards you want to do. i did 10. and you pick up the first card. then go to the next card in the line and put it down squat back up, then squat back down and pick one card up then the next card. and repeat this all the way to 10 cards, i think it ends up being over 100 squats non stop. i did these today and got a crazier burn then when i do heavy squats or even 20 rep squats

no, the first card you pick up then set it down, then pick it up and set it down on the next 2 cards, then pick them up one at a time, then go to the next cards and put the last cards down one at a time, all the way to 10 or however many u choose.

I still don't understand what this has to do with squatting or how you decided how many reps you're going to do based on the cards O.o

does this explain it. cause i get it now

no it is where you lay out number of cards(say ten in a line 1 foot apart) and move up squat pick up card, stand move to next card and squat, place card on top of other card ,stand, squat remove top card ,stand, squat, remove next card, stand move to next card in line repeat whole process over.ten cards equals 100 squats at body weight.card one=1 squat, card two =3 squats,card3= 5 squats etc.by the time you get to card ten you do 19 squats basically every card after first one equals 2 squats.so 20 cards is like 400 squats at body weight.

Now correct me if I'm missing something here, but why wouldn't you just do 100 bodyweight squats instead? Bringing a deck of cards to the gym and going through this seems kinda tedious to me...

would it really hurt you to put some plates on the bar?

Why cant we just do it the normal way. It has worked well for years.

That's something we used to do when I was locked up. Honestly, I can't remember if we used dice or cards and we usually did pushups since we had no equipment. It's a good workout, something that only makes sense when doing time... You'd look pretty funny doing that in a public gym.

I've done a lot of bodyweight squats, and never seemed to get anything from them. I've done 500 (sets of 50-100) quite a bit, and there was no effect on my regular or front squats.

yeah but these aren't bodyweight....they are bodyweight...plus 10 cards...serious stuff...no wonder you didn't see any carry over...body weight squats are worthless...you HAVE to use the cards...

Why cant we just do it the normal way. It has worked well for years.
Because if you do everything the conventional way your gains will stop coming. Come on now, those old school exercises are gone, you need to think outside the box. (all sarcasm)

Sounds like an excellent, well-designed program. In the years to come, Tyson Squats will probably be spoken of in the same breath as Starr, Westside, etc.
    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

If I want to do bodyweight squats, I'd go back to basic training.

Since I don't care about the muscular endurance of my legs, I'll stick to weighted squats.

actually if you layed out 10 cards it would be 385 squats.....

No Doubt!! They are bad!! haha

I just did a deck.. and wanted to google the name "Tyson squats"..

I do that same thing, only i just lay one card down at a time, lay out the whole deck and then pick them up.. Laying them down and picking them back up, with good posture, Thats Key.
