    Just got back from Emergency room for lower back pain

    So yeah I never thought it could happen to me. I have a strong lower back, Ive deadlifted 365X5 never really treid to max out but my back is stronger than your average joe.

    So Im taking a shower at the end of the dya and Im bent over scrubbing the footsies when I feel a razor sharp pain in my lower back. My lower body goes numb and I get on my knees paralyzed. I couldnt move my lower back at all. I sat knees on the ground face down for about 10 minutes in the shower before I could regain consciousness on what was happening because the pain was so intense.

    I crawl out the shower slowly and it takes me about 10 minutes to put on clothes. I could not stand I could only crawl any movement of my lower back would put me in intense pain.

    Scared and nervous, I call for an ambulance to go to the emergency room. There they shoot me with some trenadol? and prescribe me Cyclobenzaprine and Ibuprofen. The Doc says its just a muscle strain. It sure felt a hell lot worse than that.

    What do you guys think? Bad position at the wrong time or should I stop deadlifting?

    cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxer...the small yellow pill right? a couple months back a doctor prescribed that to me for lower back pain. I was prescribed to take it once a day before bed because I guess it makes you super drowsy. It really helped my back pain...but I'm sure that my back pain was not as severe as yours...good luck bro!

    The doctor is an obvious idiot.

    Severe pain and neurological symptoms like that suggests an injury to the disc.

    Try ice and the Ibuprofen

    The cyclobenzaprine should be avoided if all possible

    If numbness / tingling persists, see another doctor for an MRI.

    Not uncommon for a trivial movement to be the apparent instigator of a serious episode of back pain: consider it literally the straw that broke the camel's back. Other activites have weakened the back to the point where injurywas going to occur.

    i feel ur pain

    i was squating on Saturday and on my last set (275 lbs) , the 4th rep i felt a pain in the lower/mid back. i immediatly racked the weight. i took the wieghts off (in some pain). then stopped lifting and went to the sauna steamroom. i was hurting bad all the way home.

    later i couldn't get out of bed. i yelled in pain and tried different ways for about 3 minutes before getting up. it hurt so bad i actually cried. i was going to go to the ER to get vicodins but didn't.

    2 days later i can walk around, can't lift, and my lower back is sore (not pain)

    obviously i am not a doctor, but honestly, what you described sounds more than a muscle strain. i'd think that a muscle strain would happen under more pressure than just bending over. the pain that you descirbed does sound like disc or nerve damage.

    i would see a second doctor if i were u

    99% you have a slipped or herniated disk.

    Unfortunately unless it is absolutely horrible there is nothing you can do other than wait it out. Make sure to have real good posture, do static ab exercises, and avoid excessive loading of the spine for a little bit after the incident.

    Source: 2 slipped discs in lumbar in highschool. I had the same exact thing whre you go numb nad fall over but I got an MRI.

    They sit inside a little pocket. IF they get squished they get mishapen and poke out of where they normally sit. The numbness comes from them poking and compressing your spinal chord.

    Oh. I'm high on Hydrocodone from ANOTHER injury I just got so I didn't get it. My doctors used it though so I didn't realize there were any issues with it. I think slipped makes sense. It slips out of its little pocket. It helps differentiate it from herniated.

    the doctor probally did a CT, and ruled that out. Doesnt make since for him not to.

    Just some tips for the future:

    1. Stretch after a work-out (if you don't already)

    2. Never bend over like that, bend at the knees. Or, for the same scenario, you could lift up your foot to your hands and wash it that way. Work on your balance at the same time Same goes for a lot of things that require you to bend over. Bend at the knee/kneel or sit down. Whenever I do something like tying my shoe I always sit down or kneel. When I pick something off the floor I bend at my knees.

    I injured my lower back as well, about a year ago, not as serious as yours though. I injured mine because I was doing flips and gymnastics. Since I'm a tall guy, I really have to tuck to get the rotation I need to do a flip. That being said, it really stretched out my back, which was pretty damn weak at the time. That really screwed me over. The same sort of thing happens to people who sit at desks all day and don't sit with good posture. 'Most' people lean forward and sort of jut their head forward to look at the screen. This stretches the muscles on the back of the neck, and over time can cause the muscles on the front of the neck to be tight, which eventually causes pain in the back of the neck.

    Well after 2 nights of rest I feel a lot better now. Actually, pretty damn normal. I can walk/run and bend over fine. Im hoping it was a muscle strain and nothing too serious seeing how I recovered very quickly.

    Im gonna give up heavy DL's and squats for a while. Ill do leg extensions, hamstring curls, and lunges instead. In a month I might start doing rack pulls instead of deads, and do some core workouts and hyperextensions to strengthen my lower back again.

    hey guys

    yesterday when i was lunging with 20kgs Dumbells, i felt a huge spike of pain in my lower back, i dropped the weights and went n lied down, i went to get up and could only just get up.

    This morning when i woke up, i could barely get out of bed, its the worst pain ive ever had in my lower back, even sitting down its tinggling, as soon as i get up it will be pain.

    I tried doing stretches but can without pain, I cannot bend forward at all

    Im 90% sure my form was perfect, i might of leaned forward a bit tho without realising.

    Any advice, should i go see a doctor or wait it out?

    I'd visit a chiropractor that specializes in sports injuries; I did and they started with electo-stim therapy. I had 3 disks slip, and the pain for me comes from my muscles contorting themselves to protect my spine from doing it again.

    Anyway, there are some GREAT exercise ball rehab exercises you can do, and I'd stay away from most of the drugs.

    I just reinjured my back doing something stupid. I knew what it was, took off the work clothes, slapped a few icepacks on the bed, and turned on the tube.

    Not a lot you can do at that point but rest. And whatever you do, DON'T apply heat or take hot baths or see a massage therapist until it's healed up sufficiently; ice therapy aides in faster recovery.

    Lastly, pay attention to how you move now; you've injured it once now; it'll just keep getting easier unless you really work on your core strength and lose any gut you might have (just in case you do have one.)

    1a. QUIT STRETCHING!

    1b. Go see a good sports injury certified chiropractor first; one who also does electro stim therapy. If the doc takes xrays and says "go to the hospital", then go. But he will usually do an exam, take xrays, go over the results, and probably do stim therapy or water jet (I prefer stim myself), then give you some sports tape, maybe an ice pack, and maybe some homeopathic stuff. That stuff works, but gives me gas. I don't take it anymore.

    2. Regular MD's will probably prescribe muscle relaxers and possibly give steroids for serious inflammation; you could also be told to take Ibuprofen. you may get an xray, but more likely you'll get some thumbs in the back.

    3. Ice Ice ice ice ice ice ice ice ice.
