    Wide or Narrow

I'm a big guy and ive always used my pinkies on the power strip. I was wondering since my arms are longer if i should do middle finger on the power strip. I can do less reps that way but would it be better in the long run? I have a competition in about 3 months and i need to set this in stone. Will rep for help

    Competitions are not about reps.

I find that moving my hands further out on the bar and really focusing on keeping my elbows flared up (to keep a good shelf for the bar between my traps and rear delts) has really helped my squat.

I do not think where you put your hands on the bar will be what determines the "long run". I personally find it more beneficial to have my hands a little further out (I have my pointer fingers on the rings). There is a lot of relieved stress from my wrists and I can get more flare into my elbows.

I don't really think I'm anywhere near big especially when I started I was around 165lbs. Even then I found it more comfortable and more power with a full comp grip with pointers on the rings. But that's just me. I've seen some super strong guys with a much narrower grip hitting some big numbers.

What I also like about getting out so wide it makes it easier to tuck in the shoulders and reduces the ROM as well, especially doing both.

    Let me re-phrase it then...

As far as width, I set up to where the angle between my upper arm (humorous <---sp?) and forearm is approximately 90 degrees when the bar is touching my chest. I'm large (5'10") and this correlates to my pinkies being on the rings. Anything narrower than that and it is difficult for me tuck my elbows and my wrists become unstable because they are having to drastically tilt inwards. I've tried wider to reduce the ROM and i just found that I lost a ton of tricep and delt involvement doing it that way.

The 90 degree thing is a happy medium for me.
