What do you guys do for achy knees (or joints)?
I take ~15 g fish oil, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm and wear knee sleeves. But still they ache after squats.
Any ideas?

I've heard icing your knees after you're done lifting for the day typically helps.

How often do you squat weekly? If its a lot might try cutting down on the volume. Also try ice+hot tub combo after hard leg workouts.

3. Joint supplement called USP Labs SuperCissus RX http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/usp/super.html
4. Reduce your volume.
5. Deload

I think Universal Animal Flex is the ****. I had terrible shoulder pain after lifting for about a year and tried combos of everything. Now I just take Flex once a day and my joints and not sore or dry after lifting.
Just my two cents.

Taking fish oil isn't going to have a big effect until you start taking at least 30 grams a day.
Some people take up to 45 grams a day.
Try taking 30 grams a day for 2 weeks and see the effects.
Ive' heard a lot of people just taking 10 to 20 grams a day without much effect.
In all likelihood you will notice a huge effect after 2 weeks.
Charles Poliquin's talks about how most people don't see the true effects until they up the dosage to 30 grams.

How's your squat form? If you are not doing them right it's not unusual to get sore knees.

mmm, taint.
Could be a lot of things, and only an exercise physiologist (and you) can figure it out, really. You can do what they do, but it's not necessarily as easy for you to diagnose what the real source of the problem is.
It could be something as simple as squat form, or a tight IT band (I say this a lot but foam rolling on my IT band has helped my knee pain quite a lot), or... anything, really. And yea, if your dosage of fish oil isn't all that high you probably won't notice that big of a difference.

could i get a source on superdosing fish oil...(dont want to try it until i research)
..Also i dont know the legitimacy of this but i heard that if your knees swell after a workout its ideal not ice your knees because the swelling is the body's natural way to start its reconstruction of the ligaments so icing knees would mean your joints aren't going to get as strong as if you waited it out, again this could be a bunch of horse ****...

Whats your squatting style? I'm assuming this is the brunt of your legs workouts
I've noticed less knee pain since I started using an OLY style (I used to do a wide-stanced PL style)

I was having some major elbow issues for awhile. I tried everything. Iced, glucosamine, msm, anti-inflam, went to docs. Nothing really worked, least not for too long. Just benching 315 I was in pain and forgot doing 405,agony. For the last 4 months or so I have been taking SuperCissus and In my last meet(Jan) I hit 465 easy. No pain. My elbows had started feeling better in about a month or so after taking it.

Even with perfect form you will get achy knees if your squatting heavy weight with lots of volume, its one of those things that is unavoidable but you can help alleviate the pain with proper rehabilitation with ice, messages, hot tubes, knee sleeves, ext.

I use tiger balm, when I fell that kind of feeling and just a little relaxing will do! Or sometimes just a supplement I will put a hot water on a bottle and roll the bottle to my knees, it will help a little bit.

Thanks guys, I've been megadosing fish oil and this has seemed to help... but even better, I think I identified the culprit; ghetto-assed GHR's.
