Karina's untitled journal of lifting and life ~
I have decided to start fresh with a brand new, shiny journal! As you can see, the inspiration to create the perfect title has failed me... nothing really summarizes all the rambling that will probably happen in here!
A lot has happened over the past year and a half-- a lot of changes, a lot of learning and figuring out my goals and myself. Since my last journal started, I ran a marathon, started lifting seriously for the first time ( and loved it ), consequently lost 30lbs, and more importantly, proved to myself that I could stick to a healthy lifestyle. I also met a guy (now fiance) so I now have a wedding coming up in August. It seems like a good time to begin a new phase and start fresh!
I've been working with Jaime for the past few months, which has been a lot of fun. I spent a few months attempting to put on some lean mass, and I'm concentrating now on losing some fat and improving my strength. I attended Jaime (jaime91) and Roni (doindbt)'s competition last fall in Toronto, which really inspired me and gave me the urge to eventually compete someday -- not now, but eventually. I got a second job at a spa in August, so my life has been pretty hectic since then! However, it will be very hard for me to ever quit, considering I get free high pressure tans, and half price on massages, pedicures and body wraps!
So that's my last journal in a nutshell
I will be updating a lot more often than I have been. Even though I'm busy, I love these boards and I've missed following everyone's journals! Everyone here has given me more support, encouragement and motivation than I could ever dream of, and I count myself lucky to have found this place!!
So, on to the workouts:
MONDAY FEB 2 ~ LOWER
** Highest wt only**
Bulgarian Squats - 25s
DB SLDLs - 27.5s
1 legged leg press - 90# + sled
Walking lunges - 20s
Lying Leg Curls - 50# <-- It's all I could do!! My legs were tired!
Standing Calf Raises - 120#
+ 30 min. treadmill, 3.2 mph, 11.0 incline
--This workout is surprisingly tough! Short, but effective - my hamstrings are still sore!! Plus, I would rather do bulgarian squats, lunges & deadlifts ANYDAY over my evil second lower body workout...!
WEDNESDAY FEB 4 ~ UPPER
** Highest wt only**
Flat DB Bench Press - 27.5s
Incline DB Flyes - 17.5s
Underhand Lat Pulldown - 80#
Seated DB Press - 22.5s
WG Pullups - 4, 4, 3
Seated Row - 70#
Hyperextensions - 10#
L-Lateral Raises - 12.5s
Cross Body Hammer Curls - 15s
Rope Overhead Extension - 50#
+ 15 min. treadmill, 3.2 mph, 11.0 incline
--EARLY morning workout, and it felt great! My sister came with me, which was awesome...she's enjoying coming along, and it's nice to have a workout partner. A great workout, morning coffee, and oatmeal in my tummy all before work begins really sets the mood for the day!! We skimped on the cardio b/c I was running out of time...

GOOD MORNING!!
Another AM workout... just intervals today!! I was sooo wiped out by the end, but it's amazing how fast I can go with some good music!
I'm starting to get more comfortable with getting up so early. This week has already gone by so fast, and I have so much to do before the weekend! I work tonight at the spa until 10, tomorrow until 8, and we're going snowboarding in Banff this weekend...that'll be nice! Saturday morning I have to go and get measured for my wedding dress on our way out of the city... so I'm actually kind of excited for that.
I hope everyone's had a great week so far... any fun plans for the weekend???
WEDNESDAY FEB 5 ~ INTERVALS
Treadmill Intervals ~ 3.2mph/9.0mph + 30 min.@ 3.5 mph

OMG I'm coming to your competition when you do one... you know that right? I want to be the first to get your signature when you win
Awsome workouts. You bring it in full force everytime. True dedication and determination! Great!
Have fun in Banff this weekend and good luck with the fitting. You'll have to take some pics so we can see your dress.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!
I shocked myself by actually making it to the gym this morning! I closed last night at the spa, and we had some problems so I was there way longer than I thought I'd be. 5 AM came really fast, but I'm so glad I ended up going.
This workout is bittersweet... I'm sure it's very effective, but absolute torture to actually do it...not to mention the fact that I feel completely out of shape right now!
We are still going to Banff this weekend (tomorrow) but we decided to leave snowboarding for our trip in April, and just relax at the hotel and maybe go to the hot springs instead. It'll be cheaper than snowboarding -- and with all this wedding stuff to pay for and our trip to Vegas coming up, it's probably a good idea to take it easy!
Hope everyone's having a great Friday!
FRIDAY FEB 6 ~ LOWER
Mountainclimbers
Diagonal Lunges - 12.5s
Burpees <-- I only finished about 40% of these each time. I suck!
Weighted Walking Lunges - 12.5s
--I only managed 4 circuits! I haaad to stop. This workout is still killing me!!
+ 30 min. cardio, 3.2 treadmill, 11.0 incline
---------------------------------

Jaim brought the lower body death circuit back into my life as well... not once but twice a week I thought I was done with it...
That's too bad you guys aren't doing the snowboarding. I had a blast the other day when I went... I think I've re-found a new winter sport for sure!
Hope you have fun this weekend Karina. Good start to the new journal

Monday already!?
We got back from our trip to Banff last night, so I spent the day today sleeping in, running some errands and going to the gym with Stephen. After promising everyone pics of our trip and my dress fitting, I FORGOT my camera battery!!! Ugh... so no pics of the weekend - but I posted dress pics below (it's a model, that's not me... ha ha )
This week will be busy... I'm in a course for work for the next three days, I work Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the spa, and also have a hair appointment Wednesday afternoon! I'm looking forward to it though... I need a new look!! hehe.My workout went ok, but I wasn't feeling very strong! There's definitely been better days than today, but I'm glad I went at least.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!! I'm off to bed because tomorrow will be an early start!
MON FEB 9 ~ UPPER
Flat BB Bench - 80#
Incline BB Bench - 70# <-- I had to drop to 55# by the last set?!
Underhand Lat Pulldown - 60#
Overhead DB Press - 22.5s
Pullups - 4, 4, 3 <-- This took everything I had!!
Seated Cable Rows - 75#
Hypers - 25#
L-Lateral Raises - 12.5s <-- It feels like I'm never going to improve on these... they're just as tough every time! lol.
Cross Body Hammer Curls - 15s
Overhead Tricep Extensions - 50#
+ 30 min. cardio, 3.3 treadmill, 11.0 incline
--My mp3 player died halfway through... grrrr

Hope you have fun this weekend Karina. Good start to the new journal
