Talking Is Breakfast a must?

Was never a big breakfast eater, but since I started training again it just seemed like the right thing to do.
I don't know what it is but after eating breakfast I feel sick and just feel very full. Tried everything from cerel to eggs, wheat toast and it's always the same thing. Any ideas of what it could be and what I can do.

Oh it is a must alright. It took me a long time to get my self adjusted to eating the first thing in the morning. Just start out and every week keep adding to the size of the portions. Your body has gone over 6 hours at least and it needs fuel. You don't want to sacrifice valuable hard worked muscle tissue as a fuel source.

Usually, the answer is "yes". But in some measure it depends on your goals. Are you bulking, cutting, or maintaining?

If you are bulking, then the answer is definitely yes as you want to keep your body in a constant anabolic state.

If you are cutting, then the answer is probably, only have a small breakfast such as a protien shake.

If you are maintaining, then perhaps not, if it doesn't cause you to binge on donuts or something at about 10:30 a.m.

Definitely a must!

I just mix 2 scoops of protein in ice and water in the blender, with a little splenda. Drink it in the car on the way to the gym or to work.

It's not too heavy a breakfast, might work for you. You can drink it slow or fast depending on how hungry you are

I had the same problem........I hate eating first thing in the morning.

This is what I am doing now.......

Protein shake first thing when I wake up, then about an hour later I'll eat breakfast.

It's alomost playing a mind game with myself telling my body I have been up longer than I really have so I'll be hungry.

I play the same stupid game with the alarm clock too......LOL

Don't know if this'll help but when I feel bloated after a meal, for whatever reason, I take a couple of Twinlab's Super Enzyme Caps (a digestive supplement).

Yes.

Breakfast = Breaking the fast (which you have been doing during the night)

Do you eat a big meal shortly before going to sleep? That can put a damper on your digestion/appetite in the morning for some people.

Also, is your sleep quality good? Do you wake up feeling fairly refreshed or groggy? If your sleep isn't up to par that can also put a damper on your digestion/appetite in the morning.

Personally, I have to eat a light dinner if I'm going to have anything substantial for breakfast. If my dinner is too big, I can practically go without breakfast.

I think that not eating breakfast causes your body fat to be higher. It puts your body into a more starvation, conserve all calories, survival mode. It lowers your BMR.

Think of it this way.... you've just gone 6-8 hours with your body in a catabolic state with no nutrients ingested. Your body is literally feeding on itself so it is vital that you provide it with proper nutrient the first thing in the morning.

Breakfast and your after workout meal are the two meals I suggest giving your body a insulin spike with a high glycemic carb food taken along with an adequate supply of protein. This insulin spike will help with the transfer of protein to your muscles during this critical time.

At least 6 days of the week I have a big bowl of oatmeal and throw in two scoops of protein powder plus a handful of raisins. This influx of protein and carbs helps replenish the stores which were consumed during my sleep as my body repaired itself from the previous days workout.

Today I had to go for my annual physical and couldn't eat until after I had my blood work. I felt starved until I returned home and could indulge in what has become one of my favorite meals of the day.

Why not an MRP? They're quick, easy, nutritious. Good dose of protein in the morning and takes the edge off of my hunger in the morning. Add an apple and cup of coffe and I'm good to go!

I never used to eat breakfast really - only something small. Since I have started working hard at developing myself, if I don't eat I am looking for a donut come 10:00. I would say that I have to eat breakfast and make sure it has a good chunk of protein in it to satisfy me to my next meal

2 scoops might be too much for ya. Go with 6-8 ounces of skim milk, 1 scoop of whey and shake. You can probably swallow this in two or three gulps and ur set for 2 1/2 hours

I was not much of a breakfast eater, or I was a poor breakfast eater, and I have found that by eating something upon waking has improved my workouts, and my overall well-being.

I usually have 1 cup of plain or vanilla non-fat yogurt mixed with a scoop of protein powder and 1/3 cup of a low fat granola I buy in bulk that contains rolled oats, pumpkin seeds and milled flax. I love it. This is usually at about 0630.

At 10, depending upon how busy I am at work, I will have a protein shake with fruit, or what I really like is to go to the caf and get an egg white omelet (no cheese, brocolli) a small bowl of oatmeal, and a tbsp. of peanut butter.

I've tried pb on half of an eng. muffin or oatmeal w/ yogurt and wheat germ (a combo I discovered in S. Korea), but have had great results with a morning shake. I mix water w/ flax, creatine, mm fruit smoothie pdr., brocc.,carrot, apple, spinach and cranberries. I can't believe how much I like this combination and it keeps me full till late morning (I usually drink this about 5 am.). If it's a workout day I'll have another lighter mm. protein shake post w/ creatine.

That gets absorbed pretty quickly. I would recommend some cottage cheese with some fat like peanut butter or some almonds. And Mr Mom's advise of the banana with a shake is good advice for sure. Your not actually munching on food, might be a good way to introduce some food first thing.

I don't know how some of you guys do it, I would litterally starve w/o food in the morning. I usually have at least 1200 calories down by 9:30am.

Try a meal replacement like MetRx as a shake. I get up very early and can't eat right away either. This gets protein into your system too.

I only started having good breakfasts about three months ago. It has really improved my mental and emotional level in the late morning.

Here's what I have for breakfast every day now:

First thing I start cooking the oats. Meanwhile I eat an English muffin with flax oil and a little jam on it, with two scrambeld eggs (only one yolk) and a 1/2 cup of coffee.

When the oats are ready we blend the following, this is for two people:

4 cups cooked oats (1.5 cups dry oats cooked in 3 cups water)
1 cup plain yoghurt
2 scoops protein powder, unsweetened
one banana
one apple
flax oil
spirulina
water

The two of us drink about half of this and there is enough here for me to take about half of it with me for my post workout shake. After my workout I do one scoop whey in water 10 minutes after this shake.

I don't know what it is but after eating breakfast I feel sick and just feel very full. Tried everything from cerel to eggs, wheat toast and it's always the same thing. Any ideas of what it could be and what I can do.
Kind of surprised considering you've got some good size. What was breakfast for you when in the Corps? Work on it gradually & the sick full feeling should decrease.

Also, is your sleep quality good? Do you wake up feeling fairly refreshed or groggy? If your sleep isn't up to par that can also put a damper on your digestion/appetite in the morning.

The only good time to have higher (not high, but higher) Gi carbs is first thing in the morning. Coming of a long time of no fuel, the body needs carbs and protein IMO.

BREAKFAST IS A MUST !

Thanks guys.
And have a great weekend every one.
Are you drinking water first thing in the morning? I usually like to put the solids off for an hour, so I start with a lot of water, then maybe a protein shake and then coffee and then finally my food.

For years, I have gone without eating first thing in the morning. I have lost a lot of weight that way and that was wrong. I would start small like everyone is suggesting.

Pick a good Protein bar that has a lot of nutrients in it and eat 1/2 of it whne you get up... and save the rest for a few hours later.

Meal 3

You mean meal 3....correct? If new day starts at 12:01AM then what you would call breakfast is meal 3 for me. Somewhere after midnight I'm up to pee and down a Muscle Milk. (was a bowl of oatmeal for years). About 4:05 AM coffee and a Muscle Milk. I'm off to the gym with a large container of Gaspari creatine and L-Glutamine mix. 6ish back at home I fix a large bowl of Kashi/nonfat milk and down my vit/min/etc with coffee no.2. Half hour later one more Muscle Milk. On non training days I sub for 9 eggs (1 only yolk) scrambled with a large scoop of non fat cottage cheese at the side.

Oh, and I'm dropping fat and gaining muscle like crazy these days.

Frustrating & OT but seems everyone here has no problem with oatmeal. For me, it's the food from hell; cannot try a spoonful without being in absolute torture. There is no way to Dr. the stuff and get it down without gagging and retching & that PO's me to no end. Tuna shake? no prob!
